Genetic Testing Results

Has anyone done genetic testing and had the results come back with a chance of Down's syndrome? I just got a call from my doctor that there is a chance and more tests need to be done to confirm. Is this common? Should I be worried? The results take 5-10 business days.

Re: Genetic Testing Results

  • I chose to do the genetic testing only because it was just a blood draw. All my results came back good (very very low risk). As @saltbox40 mentioned - everyone is given "odds"

Personally, I wouldn't worry until there is something to worry about. Go do the additional testing that they want (if that is your choice) and see what the outcome is.

  • I also just got my screening results, and they showed an elevated risk for trisomy 18. My odds were 1:27. I went on to do a harmony test and I'm waiting for the results. I was told 2 solid weeks for results at they very least. Try not to worry, I have been told there are a lot of false positives. Hoping everything works out great for you and you get good news if you do further testing.

I'm in a similar situation. My doctor did the NIPT test (tests for down syndrome), which came back negative and has a 99% accuracy but one of my sequential tests came back high, which could mean I'm at a higher risk for high blood pressure, preeclampsia, and down syndrome. My doctor told me not to worry because she thinks the results are skewed but it's really hard not to worry. She referred me to a high risk specialist since I'm also 35 and have miscarried in the past. My appointment is tomorrow so hopefully we'll get more information then. I'm trying to stay positive.
