Anniversary Gift Help

Our two year wedding anniversary is next week and then 2 weeks later is his birthday (my birthday is 4 days before his so I may just wait to see what he buys here before buying him something).  I need gift ideas for a the man that goes out and buys what he wants when he wants it. I am almost tempted to go buy him a bottle of XR Crown Royal and call it a day, but I would like ideas.

Re: Anniversary Gift Help

  • No help. We don't do gifts. We just buy what we want when we want it.

  • We don't do anniversary gifts. Maybe you could surprise him with an extravagant meal? I cook MH a four course meal for his birthday every year.

  • Girl I'll be on year 10 with a dude that has no hobbies and buys whatever whenever.  My go to is a nice bottle of scotch like a 20yr. one year i sent him to a bbq grillmaster class. he loved that one. So did i because he could barely boil water prior to that and now he can make an entire meal and it tastes amazing. i might do Kings tickets this year.

  • He was looking at a nice Under Armour jacket at Cabela's but he went and bought it. I have thought of a Dad shirt but I feel it would be a waste because he would never wear it (maybe in the future years if the baby picks it out). As of right now I am not even sure he remembers it is coming up. We dated for 6.5 years before marriage so it may just be the bottle of Crown.

  • My husband tends to be the same way, and when he does want something, it's usually a new tool, which feels totally lame to buy for him. So...we tend to do "experiences" over "things" for gifts. I like the ideas of meals, game tickets, etc...

  • I make a photo album of things wedid together that year. DH doesn't like "stuff" so making him something (literally printing out pictures, not a whole big scrapbook) is usually the way to go. And I try to make food that he likes that I haven't made before.
  • Pretty much every year right before his birthday and Christmas, MH buys himself a bunch of stuff. It drives me insane. Every year I tell him to let me know so I can get it for him.

I honestly think it is a result of his parents being terrible gift givers. His subconscious is sure that he is going to get socks and underwear as gifts so he preemptively buys what he actually wants. Lol!

My solution is to make him give me a list of a few specific things that he would like. It isn't romantic but he always wants some random computer parts, high-tech gadget, or car part that I know nothing about. We usually go out to a nice dinner for birthdays and anniversaries so that makes up for the lack of romantic gifts.
