Maternity Bra's and belly band for plus size momma's

Last night I got in to a total funk because I was going to dinner with DH and 2 of our friends and my clothes don't fit. I showered, put my make up on, did my hair, and when I went to put on my bra I was over flowing from every direction. It seems it happened over night!! So I made it work. Then I went to put on my jeans and they were too tight and uncomfortable. So I put on my fat jeans. Still not cute. So I wore a maxi dress. I'm so bloated my clothes aren't fitting. And I'm only 8w4d! Not sure if this is normal or not. Can anyone point me in the direction for maternity bras and a belly band. I saw some at target and they were too small. My bra size is a 42DD and my pant size is a 20/22. Also, is this is from here on out as far as the bloating and growing goes? Or does the bloat tend to go away and then I'll grow again in a few weeks? Thanks.

Re: Maternity Bra's and belly band for plus size momma's

  • I have the same issue. Mine was not treatment bloat it was early baby bloat (twins/second pregnancy). I found a belly band at motherhood maternity but no bras my size (40G now). Go to a specialty store that focuses on nursing (even if you don't plan to) because nursing bras are the best! Also they make maternity pants that don't have a full belly panel, I would focus on those and long looser tops until you are ready to show off your bump. The belly bands just seemed like a waste to me because maternity pants are just so much more comfortable. But, everybody is different, plus I'm a lazy dresser and wore yoga pants almost all this past summer with my bloat!

  • My bloat turned into a pg belly. And I was in maternity pants by about 10w when I also bought a bigger sized bra. I went to lane Bryant and perused their clearance bras. Got a couple that fit my larger size at the time and like 2 more at a larger cup size. Haven't used the larger cup size yet tho. So I'd definitely recommend you some to be comfy now but definitely try not to spend too much. Everything I've read has said that you're only going to get larger once your milk comes in.

  • I don't have a belly band, I bought two pairs of maternity jeans from Motherhood maternity/Destination Maternity, the kind that goes over your belly (slip on jeans, no buttons, or zippers or anything).  They are super cute and will last whole pregnancy.  I got them around 16 weeks and still wear them around 29 weeks, have been growing with me!  I wear them a few times before washing them.  Two pairs have been enough for me.  These were my splurge, bought them for 30 bucks or so each.  Otherwise just have been doing 5-10 dollar shirts from target off clearance rack.  Bra wise, I just got remeasured and bought 3 new bras in a bigger size that should last me till end of pregnancy.  Figured I'd get maternity bras after baby comes and I get engorged etc, probably still going to grow even bigger.  Already a D size...oh boy.

  • Bloat turned into belly for me. Although this time I'm still about half and half at 16 weeks! Ugg....

Do not buy maternity bras....they suck. Get thee to a true foundations store to get fitted into a GOOD bra; pronto! I'm not plus sized, but my boobs are :(. I'm in a 36F and I'm pushing into a 38G shortly.... I've been very happy with Le Mystere bras. Not cheap, but they fit well and are supportive!

Don't buy a ton-2-3 at the most. Your boobs will be on a size roller coaster for a while, so when you fluctuate up at down, it'll be nice to have bras that fit!

  • Seems around my area not many places sell plus size maternity, except motherhood and that's still limited. Their pants are expensive, considering how long you wear them, but are quality so I was able to start out in my pants from there from my last pregnancy, but am having twins so I outgrew those and had to buy new. I wasn't able to find maternity clothes anywhere else (target for example) that fit as well.

  • Ladies, thank you so much for all the advice. @hopeby2015‌ I only wear LB bras and they are so expensive but I think I'll wait until they have a buy2get2free sale and hit it up. I guess sports bras it is for now. And I'm planning on going to motherhood maternity on Black Friday. Hopefully they'll have some deals then!

  • @starlightgator‌ I was fitted at a store called Madame Pririe's. It's a small local place that specializes in 'foundations'. They do mastectomy bras, long line bras for gowns, and measure and fit boobs big and small ;) I also got my nursing bras from them because I was so disappointed with Target and maternity store nursing bras.

Anyway....you can order from amazon. If you go to their website and follow measurement instructions carefully, you should be good.

Regular bra- (I found the lace version super itchy :( )

Nursing bra- (if I was staying home, sometimes I would skip this one and just wear a sports style nursing bra, but this one keeps your boobs looking very presentable, lol ;) )

  • My boobs gave me away before anything else did. I got nursing bras from Noppies. They were rather pricey, but I found that the coverage was good enough so that nothing was "overflowing" and I will be able to use them for the next year or so (assuming that BFing goes okay).

  • I was a 36DD prior to getting pregnant- I bought 40DDD Olga bras at Kohls- love them. I just got 2 black and white because I figured theyd continue to grow. So far (at 30 weeks) they still fit. Clothes- I was a size 12/14 before so most "maternity" clothes didnt fit me- too tight in the legs. I found nice work slacks in the jr plus department at Sears- Bongo size 2x-5x for $18 and theyve lasted thus far as well. Shirts- Old Navy, Ross, and a few at Motherhood. Good luck- happy shopping! Oh and my bloat never went away.
