Wednesday What Have You's.

I'm pretty sure someone has already used that but I've run out of alliterations.

It's Hump Day ladies. What's going on? Anything exciting?

  • DH lost the title to my new car.  I now can't get it tagged for another two weeks and it is already 3 weeks overdue on the tag.  I am livid and this makes me feel even more like if I don't do something its not going to be done correctly.

Anyone know what happens if you get pulled over with an expired tag?

  • I'm getting very excited for my new house, three weeks from tomorrow.
DH ordered all the appliances yesterday using a friends and family discount from our friend, and we saved over 30percent!
Here's hoping we can pick out paint as easily as we did appliances!

  • We still let Carter have his paci. Pretty much whenever we're home or running errands he knows he can have it. We also give it to him in church to keep him mostly quiet. I hate them. He goes all day long (except nap) at school without one. I want to take it away all togther, but I'm so afraid it's going to royally mess up his newly awesome night sleeping (he's only been STTN for 2 weeks now). DH agrees that we should pull it, but we're not going through with the idea. It's a struggle.

DS was much less of a crankster after we took it away. He was crying for it all the time.

In TN you get a ticket, go to court with your new registration as proof and pay courts costs.

  • I ate undercooked chicken on Monday night. I didn't realize it was undercooked until I was 3/4 of the way done with it. I read it could take up to 72 hours to feel sick if you're going to get sick. I'm at about 40 hours and feel fine. I'm really hoping I dodged a bullet here...food poisoning is the last thing I need!!

My parents are hard to buy for. They are at the point in their lives that if they want something, they get it. So finding gifts for occassions is hard. I got an email yesterday that a local woman who does bus trips for Michigan sports teams was doing a Red Wings trip (hockey.) We're a HUGE hockey family and have been on several of her trips so I thought perfect! We'll get mom and dad the trip for Christmas. It's more than we usually spend but they are taking B for a whole week while we're gone. Got a msg from the woman after I contacted her saying my mom just contacted her about booking the trip. I'm so pissed! Now I have NO ideas for Christmas.

On a positive note I tried on a skirt my fat a$$ couldn't fit in 2 months ago and it zipped. It's the small victories :)

Could the lady tell your mom that the trip is already full or would there be some upgrades you guys could purchase for them?  Like prepay meals, or snacks or prepay for new shirts from the game?
I had thought about that but she just emailed yesterday advertising the game. The bus, hotel and ticket are what's included. I ended up telling my mom and she felt bad (which I'm glad she did, as awful as that sounds.) I'll just have to find something else. I'm bummed.

I thought of a confession so I will just go ahead and put it here.

I am a total crotch watcher. I see men in scrubs all day and I can't help but look. I mean, sometimes it just sticks out there and stares me back saying "LOOK AT ME".  >-)
I do this at the gym especially if they are wearing a weird color. Thats one reason wy DH's workout shorts are dark colors. White is not a good look.

  • @willy_gert did you finance the car? If so I think the bank/credit union should have a copy of the title since they would have a lean on it. I might be making that up but it's worth a shot!

This is what I was going to say. I don't know if it varies by state - but my car is financed so I won't see the title until it is paid for.

Also, I think I missed it... what kind of car did you end up getting?

If you get pulled over. I just went 5 weeks with expired tags because I never got the renewal notice and didn't notice. I also usually talk myself out of things with a warning if I get pulled over. I have only had one ticket but have been pulled over a handful of times for various things.

Not sure how it works with a new car, the dealer has always provided the tags for us. I've never needed my title for anything.

  • @willy_gert - I would try to talk your way out of it if you get pulled over.  Explain that your title was lost and that you're just waiting for it.  Being a new car, they may be more lenient.

Two years ago, for some reason we completely blanked and didn't renew our plates (I blamed it on pregnancy brain, since I was pregnant with Aedan at the time).  You can't see the sticker very well because we have a license plate holder that covers some of it up so we never noticed.  Finally, in December we were pulled over for expired plates (they expired in May).  If we hadn't gotten pulled over, we still wouldn't have known.  They weren't very lenient with us since it was already 7 months overdue.  We got a ticket, paid it and renewed the plates immediately.

Jasper was DEPENDENT on his pacifier. We were so scared to take it away because we thought our house would fall down from the tantrums that would surely ensue. We had been talking about doing it seriously since like 18 months, and we didn't do it until he was like 22 months, mostly because of fear of what would happen but also because we had the new baby when he was 21 months, and didn't want him to go through 2 big changes at once. ANYWAY!! Honestly, it was a big deal to him for like.... 20 minutes at most. Seriously. Kids are weird

Apparently here in KS the dealership issues the title to us and then when we go to get the plates, they take the title and send it to the state.  Then once the car is paid off, they send you the final title.  It is so stupid and I am SO frustrated!

I got a 2014 Nissan Altima.  I told the dealer I wanted an Altima and how much I was willing to spend.  They said they couldn't do it, so we walked away.  Not even a week later they called and said that new rebates had been issued for the Altima and that they were willing to mark it down further.  They also ended up taking another $500 off because I found the exact same car online for $500 cheaper and gave us $500 more for our trade in.  I was pretty happy when it was all said and done.  UNTIL I DIDN'T HAVE A TAG!!!!

This brings back memories.  When I lived in KS this was a PIA.  Even after moving out of KS, they still held our title because it wasn't paid off.  Then we went to trade it in in WI and we just made the dealership deal with getting our title back.  It was so confusing and a pain.

Hopefully your title gets there sooner than later!

  • I am seriously considering doing this to my hair. One day I'm like 'yep. doing it. doing it.' and then I think about it and I'm like nooooo I can't. I'm too old for this trendy business. I have enough hair that I could 'cover it' if need/want be, and I wear my hair off to the side like this 99 percent of the time anyway.I mean, it's just hair. It'll grow back! I'm mostly concerned about the grow out period though, and really think at some point it's probably going to be best to just cut it all evenly, right?? I don't think I'm willing to do that. Talk me over the line... one way or the other. (sorry if this picture turns out gigantic-- I'm taking it from pinterest)

  • @jessk86  That is a really cute haircut.  I would also be very concerned about the grow out period, because if that is how you wear your hair on the norm, you will either have to keep it cut short or you will have to wear your hair differently while it grows out.

    Thanks for your help! :)

I think the general idea is to shave the half that you wouldn't normally see. Like, my hair is usually parted on the left, and I wear it off to the right most of the time. So, I would shave the right side so that if I wanted to cover it, then presumably I could. But yeah... once it got to be a few inches long it'd look like I laid with a weed whacker, and I my hair is super thick, so I don't think I could pull off a short cut :S

ETA to not have 375 posts...

@mhanson18 we just took it away cold turkey, yep. We talked about it with him the day before so it wasn't so out of left field. Every time we saw him with one we said 'okay, today is the last day for your paci. Tomorrow we are going to throw them away.' etc etc etc. And then the next day we rounded them all up and he helped us throw them away. It was about a half hour later when he flipped out, looking for one, but we took him to the trash and showed him that they were garbage, and that was it. He would randomly ask for one for the next few days, but soon he would say 'can't have. they're yucky garbage.' We now have a few for the baby, and the only time he even picks them up is to shove them in her face haha.

There is a mom at daycare with this cut, she has shorter hair though. She is way cooler than me. She is stick skinny and wears leather pants, very cool. But I could never pull this off, so not my style. You're a SAHM, right? If you really want to do it, go for it. You have all winter to wear a hat, lol.

S/O pacifiers. DH keeps asking me when I'm taking it away. I took James' away (cut the tip) a month after his second birthday (wanted to wait until after Christmas) but I'm not ready to take Leo's away. It isn't a problem at all. He only gets it in his crib and spits it out without a fight when I go get him in the morning. I saw a girl on IG took her daughter to Build a Bear and put the paci in the bear so she still sleeps with it, but not in her mouth. Cute idea but not sure it would work for us.

You have one month from the month it was tagged in. Does it have a September sticker? Then enforcement (ticketing) can begin November 1.
Good to know!  Thanks @loislayn!  I hate that I even have to worry about this!

  • jessk86 , honestly, I think it's sort of hideous.  I actually love really short or even shaved hair on women, but the halvsies look is like a sideways mullet to me and I just can't get into it.

    Honest reaction.

If you love it, go for it.

I would assume growing it out would mean chopping all your hair and growing it out from like a pixie cut or something.  So if you don't want short hair, I think you're kinda SOL on that.

I could envision Ethan ripping that bear limb from limb, lol. Really, I always said I would get rid of it when it's a problem. For Maya it was 22 months and Ethan was 16 months. If it's not an issue, why make it one?

    I wouldn't go with that cut @jessk86

The grow out would be really awkward if you weren't willing to cut it even when you're done. Also, it's been around for a couple years and I feel like it's on it's way out. I bet you could achieve a similar look by pinning that side of your hair back tightly.
Another "no" vote here. I think if you get tired of it, it's going to be a painful growing-out period.

  • I thought I was going to be daring putting some pink or purple in my hair.  I definitely couldn't pull off that haircut, but there are some people that can.  Even if I could pull it off, I wouldn't.  Not my thing.

I think Seany was having some growing pains last night.  This is the second time he's woken up screaming in pain.  He kicks his legs all over, holds them, rubs them, scratches at them, and then the same with his arms.  It's the saddest thing :(

I'm trying to figure out how many classes to take next semester.  Part of me wants to take four.  I have it all worked out.   A bigger part of me is terrified that Anat&Phys I is going to be so difficult that I'll barely be able to do anything else.  Also, I have to take an Intro to Physics class.  There are three sections offered, and both of the teachers have absolutely horrible reviews.  The one I think I'm going to take (have to) is 6.5 hours on Fridays.  Yuck.

I think I need to start screening my calls. Every unstable, angry person seems to find her way to my phone. I just lost 15 minutes of my life to a woman who just didn't want to hear that I was not the person to help her. And attempts to pass her onto the proper person were met with, "So now you're going to pass the buck." Yes, I suppose I am, to someone who can actually assist you. Be grateful!

edited for spelling. Had "screaming" instead of "screening," haha

  • I think I lack a decorator's eye when it comes to furnishing/accenting our home. I love to pin different designs/curtains/room layouts, etc. But then when it comes time to actually put ideas into effect, I feel like it doesn't all come together appropriately. Anyone care to share some favorite sites for home-related stuff? Maybe I just need to plan things out better and not rush to get a room finished.

I'm sort of doing something like that, but with glow sticks.
Black sweat suit, with white ribbon sewn on like a stick man. Then I will tape glow sticks over the ribbon for night time. That way the costume works day or night!

@willy_gert I drove around for about three months with expired tags on my Altima because i forgot to put the renal one on (I live in PA though)  I also was three months overdue for my inspection...  :-O   this is not the first time i have done this and probably wont be the last if I am honest and as long as you aren't pulled over for another offense (speeding, running a light, the cops usually aren't looking just for those things).

in reference to the pacifiers I slowly took DS's away.  Our doctor reamed us out at our 15 mn checkup appt for letting him still have them.  Her opinion was not after age one.  So after Christmas we took them away for all times other than bedtime.  He received a Pete the Cat book (his favorite) if he did well with this for giving them up and had given them up at bed time by 1 and 1/2.  Then we were just giving them to him we he was teething but it was only when he woke up in the middle of the night he would want it.  that ended a little before his second birthday.   I dont know if this was the best way but it seemed to work for us and  he isn't sucking  his thumb or asking for it....  It did cost me a lot Pete the Cat books! haha
