Advice

Hello all. One of my FTM friends just had her 20 wk ultrasound. They put her on bed rest because of hemorraging near placenta. Also they found a spot in the heart and fluid in the brain. The tech didn't tell her a whole lot of info on why, other than it's one marker for downs but no others exist.
She was asking me if I had things like this show up on my us in the past or if I knew anyone that did and went on to have a healthy pregnancy. At this point she is close to misscarrying because the placenta is attempting to detach. She is worried, any Ts and Ps or advice would be greatly appreciated! TIA
I want to be able to send her some comforting thoughts

I am so sorry for your friend and hope that baby stays in and cooks.

My DS had a spot on his heart at my 20 week ultrasound and I was also told it was a downs marker and to get a level 2 ultrasound at the hospital. The doctor who did the ultrasound confirmed that was the only marker, but was saying the only way to know for sure is to have an amnio, which I did not want to do. I ended up switching to another doctor in the practice after the two ultrasounds and my new doctor said your baby is fine, you do not need an amnio, and it is probably an echogenic focus, which is a calcium deposit. The spot was gone at my 36 week ultrasound and DS is perfectly healthy.

Hopefully baby bakes for awhile longer!

Re: Advice

  • Thank you both! I'm still curious to see if anyone else has had or knew someone in the same boat. I didn't mean to hit "answered"
I posted in high risk but board is sort of ghost townish so we will see how long it takes to get an answer
    Thanks again ladies

  • Thank you @squirmworms‌ we must have posted at the same time. Just saw your message a little after I posted mine. :) I will see if she wants to join bump land. But she's got some major hurdles to cross first. Strict bed rest for her :(
