This has been DH's only real contribution to the name game so far. It's a family name for him. I'm ok with it, but don't *love* it. Also, I feel that it is very obviously a boy only name, but several people I've asked IRL felt it could go either way. Thanks for the input!

I don't mind it- only for a boy. If you had a good reason/connection to mn it for a girl that'd be an exception too

Middle name is set at Gerard if this is a boy (my Dad's name), but since DS has 2 middle names, we could potentially mn this too... I hadn't really thought of that, but good idea!

I have an ex association. It was his MN used as FN. Every time I hear/see it now I cringe a little. Lol.

That aside. Definitely a boy. Once upon a time, if we had worked out, I was considering MN it for a girl. I don't think it would be a terrible MN for a girl but NOT a FN.

FWIW. He WAS pretentious. So it fit. Lol.

I have an acquaintance who has a grand daughter named Sterling.

When he first told me about his grand daughter he said "her name is Sterling and she is mean as a snake".

She was named after the town in Scotland. I will associate Sterling with "mean as a snake"

I have a friend named Sterling. I knew him for years as Steve before finding out that he goes by his mn because he hates the name Sterling so much.

I have a son named Sterling. I adopted him when he was 2 and he came with the name. It's not something I would have chosen myself, but it's grown on me and it fits him very well. I will delete this pic in a few hours, but here is my Sterling. *picture removed for security reasons*

Wait. So his name was Sterling Steve?!!! I like Sterling. My friends older brother is Sterling and I'm thinking maybe one of my cousins is named that also, so I pry won't use it even tho I really don't know either of them. But I know my friend's brother is a great guy so my association with it is good. I've never understood the hate I've seen on here. I won't, yes I will say, no I'm not going to say anything about it for a girl. Actually I will just say that the name Sterling should never ever ever ever ever be mentioned in a girls name post.
