~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~
Welcome! This is a check-in for moms who are/were on a dairy free and/or soy free diet due to their LO's intolerance. The check-ins will be posted every week on the Breastfeeding board and XP'd to the Food Allergy board. If you'd like to join the group, just post an intro here and dive in! To check out the archive of our previous check-ins, please see the MSPI Moms Blog (www.mspimoms.blogspot.com).
1. How are you doing? How is your LO doing?
2. How long have you been on the diet? Are you avoiding any other food(s)?
3. Any other burning questions you'd like answered or experiences to share?
4. GTKY: Will you be dressing your LO up for Halloween?
Re: ~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~ 10/01
First, I'd like to apologize for not posting the check-in for a couple of weeks. Both girls got sick, then croup. Once they were better, I finally got sick. I went to the doctor for a sore throat that wouldn't subside after a week (I was worried about strep). Long story short, they felt a nodule on my thyroid. So, after bloodwork and an ultrasound, we've determined that my TSH levels are very elevated although no significant enlargement (phew). We're not sure if this is a new issue, postpartum related or maybe even diet related. My diet is pretty restricted and I'm not getting enough iodine so this may be partially to blame. So, I'm working through that. Lastly, my husband (firefighter) just tore his ACL at work and will be having surgery next week. The recovery is 6 months. So......with all of this going on, I'd like to see if anyone is willing to take over the weekly check in as I fear I will continue to be untimely. If not, I'll do my best but they may be a little sporadic.
tl;dr - I've got a lot going on and need someone to take over the check in. If not, they may be irregular.
1. How are you doing? How is your LO doing? Aside from the above, we're doing good. I've incorporated some iodized salt into my diet lately. DD2 is doing really good and I'm kind of getting optimistic that we may actually start growing out of some of these issues!! Woot!
2. How long have you been on the diet? Are you avoiding any other food(s)? I've been on the diet for about 7 months avoiding dairy, soy, eggs, nuts, beef, corn, wheat and beans. In the past few weeks, we've given DD2 beef, fish and eggs directly. The beef and fish went great so I'm so excited to be eating both regularly now. The eggs didn't go as well and she had VERY mucousy diapers (no mood change) so we're holding off on those again. Today marks day 2 of giving her yogurt. She hasn't pooped yet and there doesn't seem to be any mood change either. I am starting to get excited that I MAY be able to eat yogurt soon!!!!
3. Any other burning questions you'd like answered or experiences to share? I guess I'm curious if anyone has had any health issues from being on the diet for an extended period. This whole thyroid thing caught me off guard. They may not be related but it's very coincidental as well.
4. GTKY: Will you be dressing your LO up for Halloween? I'm leaning towards dressing DD2 as a Cabbage Patch doll. I'm still drawing a blank for DD1. I wanted them to coordinate (not match) and nothing really goes with a Cabbage Patch, so...still deciding, lol.
