ALL Mommas who's had baby between 26-37 weeks

Ok so obviously it's ideal to hold your baby in til 37-40 weeks. But as we all know it doesn't always work that way. So I wanna hear the story's from all the mommas who have had their baby's early an what risks there was. An how your baby's are now. I know it causes risks an some damages later on I read it all but I'm not asking for what drs have written. I'm asking for mothers who have actually expierenced this an can tell me what all happened. And why you went into labor so early?

Re: ALL Mommas who's had baby between 26-37 weeks

  • I'm just curious why you want to know? :-??

  • Ya cause with my first son I had him early. But not to early thank goodness. He's two and so far nothing wrong aside from asthma. An I already went into labor once over the weekend dilated to a 2 an was given something to stop it. I'm currently staying home now to rest an take care of my little man now an to take it easy. But I'm just having so many issues an I have went an got another drs opinion on Friday. Who sadly said the same thing. She's at 3 pounds but my body's trying to be ready. I don't want to go into labor I'm 27 weeks in 2 days. But like I said I have read all these horrible sad story's an if I do go into labor I do not want to loose my baby. I want to keep her in as long as possible so nothing bad happens to her. But I might not get my way. So I'm wanting to know if there's been baby's who's made it. Who's ok. I know it can go badly but that's all I have been hearing... An it's sorda really depressing to hear that I might loose my baby if she keeps trying to come to early. The drs can only hold her off for so long. But no one seems to know why she wants to come out. My son at least waited til 36 weeks. He was born at 5 lbs an didn't have to stay in the nicu. But I need her to wait til at least 36 like him cause I'm almost there! I am trying not to stress my self out thinking about everything that could go wrong I feel like I'm being so catious about everything you could probably put me in a bubble with a bed. That's how freaked out I am an how cautious I'm trying to be to prevent anymore contractions or dialation. I just wanna know that it might be ok. It's depressing to think about loosing her.
  • I had my daughter at 34 weeks. Because of a scare at 33 weeks, I had already been given a steroid shot for her lungs when she arrived. She weighed 4lbs 2oz. She was never put on a ventilator or anything, just stayed 10 days in the NICU fattening up and learning how to eat. She is now going on 2 years old. She did get diagnosed with sleep apnea at around 2 months old until she was 13 months old. She had to be hooked up to a machine at night, and those first months that machine went off hundreds of times. I'm just thankful I noticed that she wasn't breathing one night so we were able to get her on a monitor, scariest moment of my life. Other than that, she is completely fine. Walked early, started talking early, no asthma, she's just on the petite side.

  • My sister was born I believe at 30 weeks can't remember the exact week. As stated in a post below my mother had three stillborn due to premature aging of the placenta. My mom took steroid injections her whole pregnacy and my sister was born early on purpose. She weighed 5 lbs 7 oz!!! Was only in the NICU for 2 days and they went home after 10 days. She was small growing up and was a bit behind. Walked at 16 mo and got her first tooth at 18 mo. She did have some difficulties in school but nothig that was specifically linked to her prematurity. She eventually caught up growth wise. She's now gonna be 27 taller than me and has an amazing job. You would really never know.

Also my BFF growing up was born at 24 1/2 wks and was 1 lb 5 oz. she graduated on time with all of us and had no long term issues. She's actually due with her first ( a little boy) in dec. good luck!!!

  • One of my very good friends had a baby at 36weeks, but her body had been trying to expel the baby since 27 weeks. It's possible to keep labour delayed for that long, so I wish you luck!

Her development experience isn't applicable because her baby was born with severe gastrochisis and spent eight months in the NICU. All of her complications are due to having an extremely poor functioning bowel.

Good luck, and do all that you can to keep that baby in!

  • Thank you all for the answers!! I appreciate it so much!!! I will defiantly look on the premie board too. New to all this sorry lol. But thank you all. Just need to keep her cooking at least 8 more weeks.
  • I don't have any personal experience but I myself was born at 32 weeks. I'm 28 now and have never had any issues. I was 4lbs 0oz. when I was born. My mom was put on hospital bed rest for a few weeks due to pre-e and the doctors took me via C-section. They waited as long as they could and as long as my mom and I's bodies would allow. I was in the NICU for about 2 weeks but after that had no further issues. I have had no health/learning issues.

Ok, I see. Disclaimer: every situation is unique. Just because I made it doesn't mean everyone will.

My brother & I (twins) were born at home at 30 weeks. My birth mother had no prenatal care. We spent the first 6 months of our lives in the NICU. The state thought we would be delayed, but my parents' pediatrician said, "just take them places & do things". So they did.

We are here & doing great!

  • My twin and I were born 3 months early (in the early 80's). He did not make it past two days (though he was in an experimental drug study to help preemie lungs- while he was given the drug too late that research has helped other preemies). I had to stay in for about 3 months, was very small and had seizures some the first year. However, the only lasting effect I have is a slight heart murmur. Every baby is unique and every preemie has unique challenges. There are no hard or fast answers, just have to wait and see. My twin weighed just over 2 lbs and I weighed just under 2 lbs.

I hate this for you, as it must be super stressful. Just try and rest and we'll keep our fingers crossed that baby will stay put!! Keep us updated!!
  • I defiantly will thank you all!

my oldest was born at 32 weeks. I developed HELLP and after a failed induction, he was born via emergency c section. He's a perfectly normal 6 year old now.

  • I was born at 36 weeks because my mom's water broke. I weighed a little over 6 lbs. I was a very poor feeder and had to be hospitalized cause I threw everything up, but I recovered from my digestive problems eventually. I have no long-term issues.
  • And this one will be here tomorrow. 36+2

  • My first born was born at 36 weeks due to fetal distress. She had low blood sugar and was a bit blue when she was born. She stayed 10 days in the NICU. she has mild cerebral palsy. Everyone is different, I have Lupus so I am considered high risk.

  • I had a 29 weeker who will be 1 next week. He was 1lb10oz and is still small at 19lbs (wears 9 myth clothes). Some things are behind others his age, still not talking more than babble. There are ways he is doing very well, standing on his own and crawling. He spent 9 weeks in the NICU and was released on Oxygen, which he kept for another 6 weeks. We had issues with apnea at home but now he only has issues with some allergies and if he has a cold. He has so few lingering issues. He was early due to incompetent cervix.
Hang in there, positive vibes to you and baby!

  • My dd was born at 34 weeks. She weighed 5lbs 8oz and only spent 5 days in the NICU. The only problem we had with her was jaundice. She came home with a bili blanket and used that for a week or two. She is now 3 and is taller than the other kids that had a due date around the same time.

Now I went into labor at 33 weeks and was given medication to stop labor. I stopped dilating at 3cm and after 5 days in L&D I was sent home. On the way back home my water broke so I was sent right back. I never was given a reason why my labor started early.

My sister also had her son at 34 weeks but her experience was so much different than mine. She had preeclampsia really bad and had to be induced. So everybody's experience is different. It really depends on your/baby's health. Sending healthy and positive vibes your way!

  • Ds was born at 36.3 weeks.  My water broke at 36 weeks (no idea why) and he was born 3 days later with absolutely no problems.  He was 6lbs 9 oz and was considered a full term preemie, we had to have 2 special care nurses in the room to check him out after birth.  Fortunately, he was perfectly healthy and developed and was able to stay with me the entire time in the hospital and go home after 2 days with me.

  • My son was born at 36.5 weeks, no problems prior to that, he was just ready, I think... he was 6.5lbs and didn't have to go to NICU at all. He is 18 months old now and his development is on track. He does have borderline obstructive sleep apnea, but not sure that is related to being early or not, he could have still had it if he had held out to full term.
