Screened in porch

Anyone put a screened in porch on their house?  I know the costs are going to vary based on a lot of things, but on average, I'm wondering what it might cost. We are having someone come out to give an estimate, but not for a few weeks.
It'll just be something for us to enjoy..in this market, we won't be able to get our money back, though it will be a feature that will help pull in buyers.

Re: Screened in porch

  • I actually can't help directly with your question, but I wanted to add my thoughts.  We bought our house with a screened in porch already there and found it pretty useless most of the year, although this would vary greatly depending on where you live.  It was floor to ceiling screens and if it rained too hard, or there was wind with the rain, you would get wet...snow came in, so I would have to shovel parts of it out to even use it for a staging area with the dogs.  Anyway, we just converted it to a 3 season porch, with a 30" knee wall and the rest windows and it already is 100x more useful.  My ILs recently built a house with a screened in porch and bought a window system that is easily changed out from full length screen to windows...so even that would be more useful than what we had.

Unless you live in a warmer climate, then ignore all my advice.

Thanks for your thoughts! We are open to different ideas and that is definitely something I've been considering!

  • We looked into it very briefly, the cost ranged from 10-30 thousand dollars depending on if it was 3 or 4 season and what type of foundation we got.
