Allergy or normal newborn thing?

Hey all! My 6 almost 7week old has started being more spitty--mostly cottage cheese looking in small amounts, no super liquidy. He'll typically have it after a feeding with a burp and occasionally throughout the day. I can't think of anything new I've added to my diet. No excessive fussiness or gas either. Do you think he's just being a normal kiddo?

Sounds like a "happy spitter", which is nothing to be concerned over, generally. My LO spit up after many feeds without other issues for months until one day she just stopped.

Usually food allergies or reflux will come along with extra fussinesus and in terms of allergy specifically, will cause diapers to have blood or mucous.

Edit to add, often, sitting my LO slightly upright in my arms or in the bouncy seat for 15 minutes after nursing reduced spitting up.

  • Thanks ladies! I should have also asked for suggestions with kiddo refusing the boob. We've finally got off the nipple shield for the most part, but he HATES a floppy boob that he's partially drained. He'll refuses to rematch if he gets off. I can swap him to the other side but he only wants that one for 5 mins tops too. Then he continues to act hungry. Thoughts?

  • The spit up is normal. My kids are huge spitters and it's just a laundry issue, not a health issue. I don't know about your other issue. Maybe Make a new post?

  • Try "making a sandwhich" out of your boob. As in, grab a couple inches behind the areola and press kind of flat, like a sandwich.  Then, give that breast sandwich to the baby to latch on too.  Sounds ridiculous, I know, but it will help with the floppiness issue.
