Breastfeeding

XP sleep and feeding in demand

My nearly 14 mos old twins are bf on demand which is generally every 3 hrs during the day and every 2 all freakin nite. I was fine with this until I hit a wall this week and realized that I haven't had more than 3hrs consecutive sleep since they were born and I'm exhausted.

I don't want to wean and don't even mind 1 motn feed but am at a loss as to how to get there.

We also seem to be in a sleep regression (although I can't find much data on 13 or 14 month one) and have had 2 hellish nites and tonite isn't looking up :(

Re: XP sleep and feeding in demand

  • I'll preface this by saying that I didn't have a great deal of luck cutting down on night nursing with my kids until they were good and ready, lol. HOWEVER, once they were more open to the idea, this is what worked for me:

For my first son, the shortening of nursing sessions, and then substituting with snuggles. "A little bit of nurse, and then we can snuggle." And eventually "No nurse right now, but we can snuggle." As the nursing lessened, he woke up more infrequently.

With my second son, putting him off and offering water at night worked just fine. "We'll nurse in a little while. Here, have your water." And then, eventually, "We'll nurse in the morning. Here's your water."

My first son started STTN pretty quick after weaning. My second still wakes two or three times a night, but usually just needs help finding his pillow (because he scrunches himself into the corner of his bed and then is lost when he wakes up) or his water.
