Extra breast pump: Medela Freestyle or PISA?

Ok ladies...I already have a Medela PISA and I love it! Our insurance changed late in my pregnancy so I am going to take advantage and get a second breast pump through the new insurance to keep at work. Should I get another PISA? Or the freestyle?? I have my own office so I won't be lugging it back and forth to a break room or bathroom when I need to pump. I like the idea of the freestyle but I've heard mixed reviews. Anyone have a freestyle? TIA!

  • @theresat858‌ yes its around $100 out of pocket. Do you have a freestyle? We have aetna. The PISA would be free but I'm wondering if the freestyle would be worth the extra $.

@scooter028‌ that's a good point. I need to make sure the parts are interchangeable between both models! I think they are...?

  • @casey78 thank you and everyone else for the replies!! I do worry about the possibility of low suction with the freestyle so it's nice to hear a good review.
  • You definitely need new parts for the freestyle. Def worth 100 bucks! So much easier to carry around. I have been using it while washing dishes and bottles at night. I also have the PISA which I use at work during the day

  • My insurance didn't cover a freestyle.

I have both the PISA and the freestyle (from different pregnancies) and I found i get better output (or did anyway) with the PISA but i like the freestyle to keep in my car for days when i need to pump outside of the office.

That lets me keep one at the office and one in the car.

The being said, i know you can get a batter for the PISA, it's just not covered by most insrances.

I'm just trying to make sense of things :-)
  • Ok so I'm thinking I'll splurge and get a freestyle. I'll probably keep the PISA at work since that's when I'll be doing most of my pumping. How big of a difference in output (if any) did those of you that have both pumps notice? Thanks for all the good info!! :)
  • I have both- I get the same output. With the freestyle just reboil the membranes when you start to notice a difference- it seems to "reset" them.

  • As I was hooked up to my PISA this morning, my dogs wanted outside, baby starts crying in next room, phone starts ringing and was out of reach...I think I just answered my own question. Freestyle it is!
