1st Trimester

"appearance" at 8 weeks...

silly question and/or rant.  i am currently 8 weeks pregnant and  looking kind of "big" for how early i am.  i was a few pounds overweight before getting pregnant, but i just look so.... huge... now.  my waistline has almost disappeared.  yet, whenever i google 8 week pregnancy stuff, all i see are these slim silhouettes (spelling?) of women, with a diagram of the 8 week old baby inside of them, and their tummies look "slim" as though they aren't even preggers.  is anyone with me here?  know what i'm talking about?  is it normal to feel/look so big at 8 weeks?

Re: "appearance" at 8 weeks...

  • say hello to your new friend for next few weeks.  it's name is bloat.  it sucks :(

  • I think it's normal. I was about 10 lbs. heavier than my ideal/thin weight when I got pg, and I feel like I'm looking much larger than I should for 11 weeks along. However's there's really no normal. Some women don't gain any weight and can still wear their normal pre-pg clothing 'till week 20, some need maternity clothes at 6 weeks due to bloat. It's different for everyone. :)

  • I feel....rounded.  I don't feel big, but I just feel like my tummy and my boobs have become more rounded. I make perfect sense to myself.  I just feel gross.  My H thinks I am nuts.  Maybe it's all in your head (that's what I am hoping for me, anyway). I used to have a pretty flat tummy and now I feel like a blob.   I am also hoping that this is the bloat everyone talks about and that it will go away beofre I pop...fingers crossed....
  • Ah, the lovely bloat. I thought I had lost it last week but I've made the permanent switch into my old maternity pants. DH is amazed at the bump I have- and no, it's not from eating over the holidays :) I've only gained about 5 lbs and I'm at the gym at least a couple of days a week plus other activity, but of course there's nothing to do about the bloat. GL! Before you know it, it'll be a cute baby bump.

  • I have belly pics from my last PG in my bio. ?I started showing early, and got a stranger comment at 12 weeks. ?Everyone is different. ?
  • I just wanted to say that I am with you.  I was trying on mat pants and a sweater for tomorrow, and when I turned sideways, I was shocked.  I don't have a bump as much as I just have a thick middle.  I just look like a sausage.  I was about 5-10 lb heavier than I'd have liked when I started IVF, but now I am scared!  Hopefully we will deflate and just have a baby belly :)

  • I am so there. I was sitting in the bath (warm one haha) and looking at my belly thinking I know I needed to lose some weight before getting ku, but this is ridiculous! I can only imagine how huge I'm going to look in a few weeks

  • The way I have been describing it is not being able to suck in.  I told my sister that I have relied on sucking in for 25 years.  I never realized it until I couldn't do it anymore.  My clothes still fit...but they are tight in the waist.  I much prefer stretchy pants nowadays.  I am sure I will be in mat clothes earlier than later.  Oh well, I hear they are super comfy!

  • I feel the same way, it gets worse by the end of the day. Last night my MIL said I was getting a baby bump...( I am on the thinner side) I told her that I was just bloated, but come on I'm only 9 weeks along.

  • It's most likely bloat ...

I had it too (as I'm sure we all did)

I was doing the gym 5 days a week before and was gettin pretty slim (not big to begin with) and then BAM baby in there and bump-o-rama ..... well bloat .... I look a lil big now for 14wks ..... but I have been a lil lazy

  • I don't have an 8 week pic in my blog but you can see my 7 week and 10 weeks pics. I def. was bloated.

  • I had a family member say I was getting a small bump on Thanksgiving.  I was only 9 weeks or so.  I knew it was bloat, but b/c I am thin, it looked like a belly.  My bloat never left - it turned into a little bump.  But you feel so much better with a bump than with all around hugeness from bloat.

  • I hear you! We told our parents last night and I embarrassingly showed my mom my bloat. She replied, "Oh maybe twins?" NO MOM.... just bloat.

  • I am glad I am not the only one. I got on the scale this morning and was not happy. I mean, yes, some of it may be holiday weight but I am def. bloated too.  Ugh...my clothes are getting tight but it's too soon for maternity clothes.  There is no baby bump yet!

  • I am right there with you!

This is my 3rd time around, and I seem to show earlier each time. My torso is completely disproportionate to my legs, so I have nowhere to go, but out. I have already busted out the maternity pants Crying

It's probably bloat, and fwiw, those pictures are never fair anyway!

Me, too- that describes it perfectly! I keep telling DH "I can't suck it in anymore!"

The weird part is that I was at the gym again yesterday and I've been stepping on the scale every time to make sure I'm not gaining or losing too much so early on, and I'm down 8 lbs from my first doctor's appointment weigh-in. I feel super fat (and look good and pudgy) but I weigh much less than I did 5 weeks ago.
  • I have the bloat going on too. Ick!
  • Its called bloat-your new best friend.
  • My bloat is leaving me but I would gladly take it back and return the Morning Sickness. My waist is starting to thicken but my gut instincts are that I'm going to carry low and not have a little basket ball. Hence the widening waist vs. bump.
  • maybe it twins? ?i honestly think its up to the individual on when you will start showing so i wouldnt pay much attention to the guidelines
