Weight loss plateau-EBF

Any other EBF moms finding that they are hitting a weight loss plateau? I was losing a consistent amount of weight at a consistent rate. I got to ten pounds above pp weight and WALL. It doesn't matter how many miles I run or how healthy I eat....that scale will. Not. Move. I think I read somewhere that your body might hold onto some extra pounds while BFing? Anyone else noticing this as well? I'm getting really disappointed with all the work I'm doing....plus I'm not getting to eat cake with zero reward. Boo.

It took you almost ten months to gain the weight. It's gonna take you the same amount of time to lose it without risking your health. Enjoy that cake

And I've started to gain back after hitting that plateau now...

Totally! It was the same with DD too. As soon as I weaned her around 14 months, the last 7 lbs dropped off effortlessly.

When I was breastfeeding Skippy, I got really sick with IBS problems and lost 90 lbs. (from 3rd tri weight) by the time he'd turned 8 months.

This time, I've been hovering at my pre-pregnancy weight until this past week, when I started having troubles again. I've lost 5 lbs. this week.

And I've started to gain back after hitting that plateau now...

Yup me too. I was doing great eating healthy and was sitting at 5 lbs over pp weight and was super happy with that.
Now I've def put a few pounds on but too scared to step on the scale. With trying to balance being back at work, pumping, ds going to kindergarten and dd I just don't care right now. Bring on the cake! And beer :)

I'm down to my pre pregnancy weight but my body refuses to go below that. For Years i have been able to be even 1 lb below.

I was able to lose the first 45 easily (because serious swelling that last month....), but then plateaued 18 above prepregancy weight all summer. I just switched to paleo eating (no alcohol, added sugars, or gluten) and have been losing pretty well - 7 lbs in 2.5 weeks, and without any affect on my milk supply, which I had been worried about.

Hoping I don't hit another plateau!

    @CalinAZ‌ would you recommend paleo?

Same here! Although I can't say I've eaten very well...breastfeeding makes me want to eat everything in sight (so did pregnancy) eeek

I walked out of the hospital 25lbs lighter and haven't lost a pound since...I have 20 to go. Granted, I was still doing CrossFit 3-4x a week while pregnant (5-6x before baby) and now I'm lucky if I can workout one day a week. My LO is a terrible sleeper and we average only 2-3hrs total a night, plus with my DH traveling every week for work and my working full time I'm burning the candle at both ends so I'm sure that has something to do with not losing weight.

It's like anything, some people lose a ton of weight, some lose slowly, some it takes a while.

I gained way more than the "normal", and now am back down to about 10ish pounds above pre-preg weight. Pants fit some days, others I do the hairband through the button hole trick. Some days my belly flab bugs me, but most days I just think, "Eh, I made a human. What's a little belly flab?" It helps that DH thinks (and tells me) that I'm sexy :)

@RedDawnsRevenge‌ I have been paleo for three years prior to getting pregnant with LO, I just went back and started to see a difference as I was plateauing at 10lbs above pre pregnancy weight too. I just got back to as strict paleo as I feel comfortable with as I'm a but nervous to shed weight and have it affect my supply. It's a fantastic way of eating, can be pricier but I have tons of recipes that help with using the crock pot, etc. just be careful if you so try it to not get caught up in the paleo baked stuff as it may be "paleo" but the fat content can get to be a bit much really easily!

@CalinAZ‌ that's so good to hear it hasn't affected your supply! How is your energy? Back years ago when I first went paleo my energy crashed for a week then was awesome once I adjusted.

I'm starting to look like my old self but my weight is still about 5 pounds over my pre-preg weight. I didn't go back to normal until like 9 or 10 months after I had DD.

In my mind I'm back to my old self but the scale smacks me in the face each time I step on it. I'm still stuck at 20lbs over pp weight...not fair to those who've lost it all by now!!

@reddawnsrevenge - I definitely would! I'm not good with regular diets to just "eat healthy" because I hate keeping track of what I'm eating and I always end up having "just that one sweet" and then end up stopping. I'm better just not eating a group of foods and focusing on just eating things that are good for me. And with paleo, if I'm hungry, I eat. No deprivation! And all the extra fats make things feel much more satisfying :). You're welcome to PM if you have any more questions about it!

@catherinedc2012 I'm tired, but that's just because LO is hitting that sucky 4 month sleep regression :P. However, I think considering that, I actually have had more energy than I would have otherwise.

I was paleo when I got pregnant (I've heard it improves fertility! Although that is not why I was eating that way). I fell off that wagon during MS when it was hard to eat anything and only pasta sounded even ok. But recently I have been thinking of going back to it. However, paleo is not recommended for those who exercise a ton or have a super high metabolism. Dropping sugar is always smart but I'm concerned that while EBFing I need the energy carbs provide.

@pearlvirus - I've been doing "adjusted" paleo - what I hear they recommend for athletes. So, I'm having sweet potatoes, sometimes regular potatoes, quinoa, etc. Basically carbs that still are natural. You could play around with that and see if that would help it to work. DH has a super high metabolism, and this works for him also.

I'm fluctuating between pre-preg weight (which I'm happy with) and 5lbs over (which makes my pants not fit). I've noticed eating a lower cal/fat diet has decreased my pumping production and since I make JUST enough as it is, I'm struggling balancing fitting in my jeans with pumping enough. I'm too cheap to buy new pants.

I'm stuck at 20lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight. I have found using MFP it doesn't matter if I eat 1,200 cals a day or 12,000 cals a day (ok, I'm exagerrating a lot lol but you get the point), the number on the scale won't budge. I found restricting calories also caused my supply to drop so I'm giving up for now. I might try again at the 6 month mark, but if that fails I'm weaning at 12 months and getting serious.

I am having the same issue. this is my second child and with the first I had to EP as he had serious latch issue and by 6 months out I was 10  pound below pre-preg weight with hardly trying! This time at 5 months out an EBF I am stuck at 10 pounds above for the past 2 months and I have been activly working our but making sure I still eat enough calories. So frustrating!
