Baby Names

Stuck on baby girl #2

DD #1 is Eva Louise. Had she been a boy, the name would have been James Patrick. I'm now expecting DD#2 -- due Christmas Day.

We've kicked around the name Piper, which is actually my maiden name. It's fairly popular, but I'm afraid it will always sound like a last name to me. I've also considered sticking with the E theme. Elsa was on my short list last time, but I'm hesitant to use a Disney name and DH hates it.

Given the Christmas due date, I was kicking around Noelle for the middle name. I thought this was cute and clever, but DH thinks its dorky.

Care to weigh it?

Re: Stuck on baby girl #2

  • I've never been a fan of piper. It's just nms. As far as Noelle for a Christmas baby, I don't think it's dorky. That's how those names originated. Like June or Summer. They typically mean "born in..." whatever month/season. Seems legit to me. :)
Started adoption process in Jan. 2011.
    3 failed matches in 2012.
    Surprise pregnancy in Aug. 2012.
Precious baby boy "HC" born May 2013.
    Began researching EA in 2014.
No longer pursuing EA due to fibroid complications.
Officially on the adoption home study wait list.

  • I don't care for Piper and I think it's odd to use your maiden name as your LO's fn.  I would mn Piper.  I think Noelle is lovely.  Elsa is lovely too and the Disney connection doesn't bother me.  But Elsa and Eva are quite similar.

I say Noelle Piper is lovely.

  • I like Piper (esp since it has extra oomf being your maiden name).

You could also try to incorporate Winter as a nod to the holiday season.

    E names:

    Estelle Winter/Noelle
    Eden Winter/Noelle
    Edith (Edie) Winter/Noelle

  • I like Elaine or Eloise for a first name with Noelle as the middle name.
  • I really like family surnames as FNs when they work, and I think Piper works very well.  Noelle would be very nice as a FN or MN.  I'm not into matching first initials for kids and I think Eva and Elsa would get me tongue-tied, but I'm easily confused.

  • I love Noelle for Christmas babies!

    I like Piper Noelle.

I LOVE Piper. I'd use it except I don't like how it goes with our last name.  I like the idea of using your maiden name too.

  • Another vote for Piper Noelle. Love using your maiden name as her fn; very special.

  • Noelle is a very pretty name. I don't hear it much either...
  • Eva and Piper seems like an odd pair to me. I'd prefer Eva and Noelle Piper LN. I don't mind a little corn in a name.

  • I think because Piper is a family name, it's a great option but ordinarily, I'm not a huge fan.  Family names get a lot of weight with me.

    Piper Noelle is ADORABLE.

  • Natalie Piper........Natalie is a christmas name that is not SCREAMING "I was born at Christmas time"
  • Piper is a guilty pleasure for me, I think Piper Noelle is lovely.  I am not a fan of Else, has nothing to do with the movie it's just nms.

I like all of your choices.
  • I have a friend who's daughter's middle name is Noelle because she was due on Christmas. I believe she was born a few days later but she kept the name anyway. My fiance's cousin's daughter was born on Christmas. She tells people she's from Christmas. She's 3, and hilarious.

  • I like Piper in the MN spot only. Here in the south naming your daughter after your (the mother's) father (your surname or his MN) is traditional, so I am all for it. Piper as a FN is pretty blah IMO

I loved PP suggestion of Natalie (or Natasha or Natalia - I think Eva and Natasha are a GREAT sibset)

    Also
    Mary Piper
    Holly Piper
    Lucille (Lucy) Piper
    Vallarie Piper

Just to throw some suggestions out there.

Noelle is pretty too, but if your DH can't be convinced there are other very pretty names available.

I would stay away from matching initials.

Not sure if it was mentioned by PPs, but Natalie is my favorite Christmas-themed name. I also really love Elsa, since she's a winter baby.

  •  Me and my girls are Team 'A', so I like matching letters-but Piper is nice too since it is your family name. I like Noelle in the middle.

I don't think matching initials are a problem as long as you love the names and don't feel trapped in the letter.
I like Elsa. Much more than piper as a first name. Eva & Elsa is a little close, but not bad. I do really like Eva with Elise, Elsie, Eileen, and Ellen.
