Any recommendations on how to make going back to work and leaving the LO at daycare easier?

Home daycare a can be amazing too! Smaller group, comfortable atmosphere (homey) and more one-on-one time with the provider. It's very unlikely that what happened in the extreme case you mentioned would happen elsewhere...

It's normal to be anxious/nervous about leaving LO at daycare. I don't have much advice, other than asking DCP to send you a few photos or updates throughout the day for the first few days. That helped me a lot.

I also found the first few days back at work were fine, but by the end of the week I was becoming a mess and missing my little guy. I still find by the end of the week I'm really looking forward to spending time with him.

It takes awhile but daycare and work will become the new normal. Give yourself time to adjust, and permission to be a bit upset and uneasy about the transition. I think it took a good month for everyone in my family to get used to me going back to work.
