Re: question about hunger

  • My hunger around that time was pretty crazy.  I ate when I was hungry because it made me feel better and the hunger often led to nausea.  You do what you can to stay healthy and balanced, but sometimes you just need to eat whatever it is that sounds good at the time.  Most people find that eating 4-5 smaller meals throughout the day is helpful.

  • I was constantly hungry (and nauseated) until about 10 weeks, then it started to be a bit more normal. Everything that I've read and understood from my doctor is to eat when you're hungry, don't feel bad about it. Try to choose healthy foods, but a few less than ideal things along the way won't hurt.

  • Yes, eat when you are hungry. Even if it's junk. Generally you should try to eat a balanced diet, but it can be really hard in the first tri when you're dealing with m/s and food aversions. Eat what sounds good. You can always make up for it in the second and third tri when you feel better. Baby will always take what it needs from you, so don't worry about if they are getting enough. You will be the one lacking, if at all.

  • As pp have said, eat what you can when you can. With my DS I didn't eat any meat, veggies or dairy until 15 weeks I was so sick! I feel like it's heading in the same direction this time around. Good luck!

  • I'm like you, constantly hungry all the time. In fact the only thing that helps my nausea is eating so you can bet that's what I do! And a lot of the things I want to eat are far from healthy. I just try not to eat a whole lot at once. Yes it's ok to eat a few cookies when the hunger pangs are so bad you feel sick. Just try not to go completely overboard and eat the whole pack.

  • I am sitting at my desk chowing down as I read this. :) I have yet to go in for my first appt so I am not sure how far along I am..based on my LMP I would be about 8 weeks now and this is one of my main "symptoms" also! I am allllways starving, like stomach rumbling and burning starving! So far, I've been giving into it because I start to feel weak if I don't.!

  • For me it's not always necessarily an "I'm going to throw up" feeling either. It's feeling more like that over the past few days, but often my stomach just feels unsettled. Like I'm hungover.

As for food, if it's all that sounds good, that's what I eat. Actually, I usually end up with what doesn't sound terrible. I'm like you, when I'm looking for something to eat all if find are things I definitely don't want to eat.

My nurse at my doctor's office talked through all the healthy choices they wanted me to make. Then at the end of the conversation said "Unless you're feeling sick. In that case all bets are off, just do what you can.

  • Yes, eat if you are hungry. You are pregnant. Do not diet. Make healthy choices when you can, but eat what you can when you are hungry. :-) GL!

  • If you are hungry, eat! I've always found that having a full stomach helps the nausea. I've always forgone meals in place of mini snacks. Also, first trimester eating can be a bit crazy. You will be able to balance it out later down the road. I went a whole week one only eating cheese-its because thats the only thing that sounded appetizing.

  • Not everyone gets the "run to the toilet and puke your guts out" kind of nausea. Mine was more of the constant upset stomach. I only actually threw up once.
