What will be the first thing you buy for baby and/or what will be the most exciting thing to buy?

For us, we won't have much to buy because we have a 2.5 year old and we won't find out the baby's sex until birth.

Re: What will be the first thing you buy for baby and/or what will be the most exciting thing to buy?

  • This will be my first baby, and I have been collecting children's books for the last few years so I have a pretty good library for the future LO. :) DH and I might pick out a cute onesie together.

Honestly, I'm really excited about doing a baby registry!

Well we got rid of ALL of baby things from our DS about 6 months ago. LOL. DH decided he was ready to have another 2 weeks after we donated everything we did not sell. Oh well! I will probably wait for most things until we know the sex of this baby.

The thing I am most excited to purchase is a Lillebaby airflow carrier. It is currently my favorite soft structured baby carrier that I have tried. :D I am also excited to start buying cloth diapers again!!

  • When I got pregnant with my daughter I bought a beautiful baby quilt off Etsy. I still love it. But we will have a lot less to buy this time around.
  • I previously bought baby sunglasses when I thought I was pregnant but wasn't. I will probably buy some small gender-neutral accessory soon. I think I'm going to use the sunglasses somehow when we announce this pregnancy. I also just bought a j-shaped pillow and pregnancy belly button ring on Amazon for myself! I'm pretty excited about the pillow since all I want to do is sleep right now!

Oh yeah I forgot I got a Bella band too! :) By the way, this is "susanktrentlage" from above. Your idea worked @katnhiding‌ but now I'm afraid I'm just been confusing with the 2 names. Oops. Sorry.
  • Because I'm crazy, I've been collecting gender neutral items for a while (because I got serious baby fever and we weren't ready to start trying). I've knit a few gender neutral baby things too. I'm most looking forward to decorating the baby's room and picking out clothes after we find out the gender.

  • I think I'm going to try to find a Bella Band today. I'd rather have one before I actually need it, plus I'm excited to buy something for my pregnancy.
  • Definitely a new Ergo. That was my favorite thing before. Otherwise, I know this time you really don't need much, though I'm sure I'll get sucked in on my first trip to Buy Buy Baby. Lolz

  • Luckily we won't have to buy much unless we have a boy and even then it should just be clothing we need. But I can't wait to wear my maternity uniform. It is so comfy! Like wearing pajamas to work!
  • I'm seriously going to sport maternity clothes ASAP this time--I didn't get to at all last time (hospital/home bed rest for 10 weeks and then she was born 7 weeks early) so I'm definitely going to take advantage this time. I'm also going to do everything early this time just in case since I didn't get to last time--pics, actually have a baby shower, etc.

  • I just bought some maternity pants from Target this morning. I know I'm crazy, but they were my size and on clearance for $10 :)
  • Definitely a new Ergo. That was my favorite thing before. Otherwise, I know this time you really don't need much, though I'm sure I'll get sucked in on my first trip to Buy Buy Baby. Lolz
You can get the original style ergo for really cheap right now as they are discontinuing them and going to a new 360 style from my understanding. I picked up a galaxy grey ergo about a month ago from Target for $60! :D

  • I don't need much because I have a 2 year old. We will need to buy a new bedroom set for DS because this baby will get all of his nursery furniture. If it's a girl, I will need some clothes and new linens.

  • The most exciting thing I will be buying for the baby is a new infant seat. My daughters will get new beds so they can share a room. I'm really excited about putting their new room together.

  • We have all of L's old stuff, so we don't need much. I've been drooling over the Britax double stroller though. I'm not sure if I can bring myself to spend $360 on a stroller, so we'll see. I'll keep checking craigslist for it. Hopefully we'll get lucky and find one used.
  • We need EVERYTHING because our "baby" is 6 now lol. I'm super excited to get the crib and furniture and set up a nursery. That'll probably be some of the first stuff we buy.
  • @irishtheatrechic‌ Check out a Baby bargains book. It was a lifesaver for me when I was registering and looking for baby items with DS. They have ratings for all different price points. It was very helpful!

  • This is a Tula. The very best baby carrier ever!! So comfortable and you can wear your little rug rats until they are in college. Ok not quite that long, but for a really long time.
Pricy, but so so worth it. :)

  • I couldn't sleep with the pregnancy pillow. It was too big and bulky for me. I just put a pillow under my stomach and I was good to go.

also, DH hated that pillow with a passion.

I see several of has mentioned carriers we would like to buy. Here is my advice if you plan to babywear. Sorry this is long, but something I am passionate about.

Find out more information now (while you are small and not all belly). Try them out and see what you like. Boutique shops that typically sell cloth diapers, usually also have a lot of babywearing products. Many of them offer classes and will let you try them out in store with a weighted doll (or you can bring a friend with a baby you can borrow.) You will not know what is comfortable for YOU, until you try them out. Also you can find a local babywearing group and go to a meetup to try out carriers and learn more. I know my local BW chapter has over 100 carriers in the lending library. There are VBE (volunteer babywearing educators) all over the world. Something I am actually just starting to the process to become. This is also a great website (Babywearing International)
    https://www.babywearinginternational.org/ . A great place to start.

There really is whole world outside of what BRU sells, of the Baby Bjorn, Chicco, Infantino, Snugli, Ergo, ect. The only way to know is to try them out.

There are (and this is NOT a comprehensive list by any means, just gives an idea) :
Ring slings -  Brands such as Maya wrap, Chimparoo, ect
Knit wraps : Brands like Moby wrap, Boba wrap, ect.
Woven wraps : Brand like Lenny Lamb, Little Frog, ect
Soft structured carriers :  Brands like  Ergobaby, Beco, MobyGo!, Tula, Lillebaby, ect
Mei Tai carriers : Brand like Infantino Mei Tai, BabyHawk, Catbird Baby, ect.

You can also DIY for ALL of these style of carriers. I currently own 6 carriers and plan to expand it quite a bit with this LO. I currently own a Moby wrap, Moby Go, Ergobaby, Infantino Mei Tai, DIY woven wrap size 2 and a DIY woven wrap size 5. Plus a couple sets of rings to use with my woven wraps.

I thought that the Ergo was the best. It was my unicorn for 3 years. I finally got one and I am still going to my MT or my MobyGo first. It is just not the best for me with a nearly 30lb toddler. I have lower back problems to deal with and it just does not help as much as I had hoped. I recently went to the babywearing international conference and talked with most of the various vendors there. After much trying on with my toddler, I am set with absolutely getting a Lillebaby this time around. It has the best back support of any carrier I tried. They also have one that is completely breathable. Works best for us. I also really liked the Beco. I have only shortly tried a Tula, but it is not the best for my back problems. Most of the time I actually prefer carriers that I can change from a back pact style strap to a crisscross on my back or front. Holds my DS closer to be and puts the pressure center mass verses pulling on my shoulders (like backpacks do). I really like wrapping as well, now that I am learning so many various carries. I will probably be purchasing several carriers this time around, since babywearing is something I do nearly everyday.

The world of babywearing is HUGE! Do not limit yourself or your LO!

  • We saved almost everything from DD, so we hope to not buy very many things this time around.
We did give away her car seat and plan to buy the same kind we had, the chicco keyfit.

  • For FTMs, I highly recommend the Baby Bargains book and Lucie's List (website). They made all the difference in picking stuff for DS.

This time around, we will need to figure out furniture. We got a convertible crib for DS, which we are about to convert to a toddler bed (had already ordered the part before finding out we were pregnant again). Since it also converts to a full bed, we would really like to keep that for him and because the dresser/changer matches, he'll get to keep that too.

We will likely need a double stroller, though we might just wait and see on that. DS will be 2.5 when new LO arrives and I really want to baby wear more, so we might just see if we find we need one before buying.

Beyond that, we have all of our gear (some of it currently being loaned out to a friend with a 9-week-old) and I purposely got everything gender neutral, just in case. Another tip for FTMs - even if you are unsure on another baby, go gender neutral unless you just don't care about spending all that money again.
