Hair shedding

I know we shed hairs all the time. Seems like it's soo much more than ever. My stylist said its normal to lose quite a bit after pregnancy because the body doesn't shed as much during. I just don't remember it being this bad with DS & it just looks so flat and gross. Ugh! No point to this at all other than any suggestions anyone has.

Re: Hair shedding

  • My twins are 8 months old and my hair still hasn't stopped falling out! It's been brutal. I have thick, longer hair to begin with so I realize that it is more obvious to me, but I'm with ya...it sucks! Mine was the worst around 15-20 weeks pp. My best advice is to try not to wash your hair every day, limit the product you place in it (this causes more tugging/stress on it when you brush) and keep taking your vitamins.
  • I have 1/2 the the hair I used to!  I started shedding around 3 months post-partum and it didn't stop until about 3 months later.  I look gross!!!

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!

  • The shedding is the worst! I shed both times from 3-6mo PP. Clumps of hair, it seemed like.

I just can't not wash it. I feel so gross when I don't. Hoping it only lasts a few months and then goes away. My hair seems like it's gotten so thin & flat.

  • I hate the thought of post partum hair loss. I already started out with thinning hair, then when it started falling out after my last pregnancy I thought I was going to be bald. I also take Biotin in addition to my other vitamins.

  • If it continues, you may want to have your thyroid checked. PP hyperthyroidism can cause hair loss. Other symptoms are heart palpitations, tremors, anxiety, etc. I hope the hair loss slows soon.

  • Hyothyroidism also causes hair loss, other symptoms are fatigue, sensitive to cold, constipation, brittle fingernails, weight gain. Not pregnant, but was concerned for hair loss- and everyone pooh poohed my concern... turns out I was showing symptoms of Hashimoto's throiditis and I was barely functioning when it finally got diagnosed. PP hormones can be wacky, so if you get a "normal" test result, recheck in a few months if you still have symptoms.... good luck, I hope it just stops on its own :-)

  • Yep. PP hair loss is extreme. Mine started when my twins were 3 months. It's better now but still not back to normal.
