Concerned 34 week Pregnant Mom

I am a little concerned that I have lost 5 pounds in the last 7-10 days and haven't changed any eating/drinking habits. Up until a the weight loss, I gained a total of 22 pounds. I was normal weight prior to pregnancy (not over or under). I know with my first born, I lost a few pounds prior to delivery, but I think that's too early right now. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Concerned 34 week Pregnant Mom

  • If you ask dr google it's pretty normal. If your concerned ask your dr.
  • Honestly, talk to your doc if you're concerned. We can offer advice, but they're the ones who can order an u/s if you're worried about growth.

Baby is growing fast and packing on pounds...he could have gone through a small growth spurt that used up the calories you were eating. Even then, baby will take what he/she needs from you before you get what you need from your diet.

I've continuously lost weight through the last trimester and am below my starting weight. Granted, I was overweight to begin with but it can be normal to lose during the last tri. You even said it happened for you last pregnancy.

  • Weight gain and loss can vary from my understanding. This is why I don't weigh myself. Everyone is different. Considering the doctor weighs you at each visit I would think he/she would bring up any concerns. If you can't wait, I would definitely call. Good luck!

  • If you are concerned, call your doctor. The doctor will always mention anything they are concerned about.

  • I wouldn't worry too much since weight gain/loss can vary so much, but you can ask your doctor if you're concerned. I know I haven't gained anything at all in the last four weeks, and my OB isn't the least worried and baby is measuring on track.

  • Had the same issue and asked my doc. She said this is common late in 3rd tri as baby takes what he/she needs and leaves us with the rest, and also as we have less room in our bodies. Also, in theory, little bits of fluid might be getting lost. My eating habits didn't change that much but I do notice that I am unable to digest as much so I am probably eating less quantity. But agreed - always ask your doctor about any concerns so answers will be specific to your situation.
