N3TR: Calling All East Bay Ladies!

You guys are both in the East Bay right?  DH and I currently live on the peninsula but we're thinking of moving to the East Bay in a couple of months.  What are the best/safest areas?  I hear mixed reviews about San Leandro, is there anything to the claims it is unsafe?

Any suggestions are welcome.  The only requirement is that we have BART access.

@Diordra - All are welcome!!  I knew for sure that the two I tagged lived in the East Bay but I welcome all the info I can get.  Thanks for chiming in!

@RainbowBridge14 - Thanks so much, your list is very helpful.  We were mostly looking at Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville but everything is just crazy expensive so we've started to expand our search.  We just don't know all that much about anything further east except Walnut Creek...which is also nice but still pretty expensive.

I hate moving.  Hate, hate, hate!!

I live in Dublin.  I love it and I find it to be generally safe!  I've never had any major issues.  And I love the proximity to BART.  There are 2 BART stations - one is towards the Pleasanton/Dublin border and the other (West Dublin station) is closer to my side of Dublin (near the San Ramon border).  The big issue though is that no matter where you work, Dublin is probably THE furthest station out in the East bay (which would make for a long commute).  But I've really come to love it here.  It's developing very rapidly!  Later this Fall we are getting a new shopping center that has Whole Foods and Nordstrom Rack (yay!).  There's no reason to ever leave Dublin - we have everything!  

Come to Dublin @kmdecoux!  We can hang out and drink lots of wine together!  And invite @rainbowbridge14 and @Diordra.  Haha but seriously - I think @ranbowbridge14 suggested Fremont.  I know tons of people who live in Fremont and are raising a family there.  I think that's also a good option!  Orinda and Lafayette (close to Walnut Creek; where I work) are both also nice but EXPENSIVE!  I love Berkeley.  Used to live there and was hoping to buy a place there ....but again, I wasn't willing to spend $500K for a 1000 square foot condo (with a $400/month HOA fee).

@SnakeFisherBub - Rent around here is completely crazy and it keeps getting worse.  The tech companies in Palo Alto have made it impossible to find anything reasonable between SF and SJ.  On the other hand it is so beautiful here that I can't imagine living anywhere else ever again.

DH and I were living in Utah for a while and bought a cute little house.  Then I got an amazing job opportunity and my company moved us out here.  We've been renting the house out but if we could just sell it we would have enough money for a down payment on a new one.  In the mean time we are just sitting here wasting money on rent.  Sigh.

Alameda was def on our list.  We've been out to the main street area and thought it was really cute.  It's okay that it isn't right next to BART because there are a bunch of buses that will take me to the nearest station.
