Ugh! I hate water!!

Any suggestions on how you get your water down?  I generally don't like the taste of water, and the filtered water at my house is NASTY!!!  Last pregnancy I drank crystal light all the time in my water, but now I just read that I shouldn't drink it while pregnant because the aspartame.  I was thinking on trying those Special K protein water mixes, but I think they are kinda expensive.  I don't want to have to drink a new bottle of water each time either, cuz that's also expensive.  I dunno. I also need to make sure I'm not drinking a lot of sugary drinks.  Any advice would be great!

  • for me, I just make it really really cold - I put a ton of ice cubes in there.

  • Would you like it better if you squeezed some lemon or lime in it?

  • Last pregnancy I lived in a place where even the filtered water tasted "off" but found it was less expensive to drink bottled water bought by the gallon or 2.5 gallon containers.  I payed about the same for that as I would for other drinks (usually 0.99-1.19 per gallon).  I find when I get tired of plain water/seltzer (pg or not) I add just a splash of 100% natural, no sugar added juice to it.  That adds a bit of flavor without killing you with extra sugar and calories.

  • I usually only drink water but lately it tastes a little different and not as refreshing. I just bought some Propel as a "treat" for myself. It has just enough flavor to be refreshing - but not over powering.
  • I just make sure the water is REALLY cold!  Also the disani (probably not spelt right!) flavored water is pretty good.  Last year when I decided I was going to stop drinking coke and start drinking water I used to drink the lemon flavored ones to transitition and it really helped!
  • You can try sparkling water with a little bit of fruit juice. ?Vitamin Water is also a good bet. ?I've been drinking a lot of that lately.
  • I posted this not too long ago. ?I try to switch up between juice, cider, water and skim milk, but I still feel like I'm taking in too many calories from juice and cider. ?I need to try the seltzer water with a little juice added. ?I wish Crystal Light was made with splenda instead of aspartame (both are ok in moderation, but aspartame can trigger a headache).

  • I have been watering down some kool aid so the flavor is not too strong and not quite as much sugar.

  • Instead of Crystal Light I have been making Kool Aid but with Splenda instead of sugar.  The packets are cheap and you can buy a ton of different flavors.  Hope that helps.

  • (1) Invest in a GOOD water filter.  Either an under the sink one, or just a Brita (and change the filter regularly)

    (2) Keep your water cold -- it tastes better that way

    (3) Dilute juices with club soda and drink that instead of plain water

    (4) Flavor your water with lemon, cucumber, lime, peppermint, etc.

    (5) I've heard some women use koolaid in place of crystal light since it uses real sugar (or at least corn syrup, I'm not sure which)

  • I found adding lemon to my water helped a lot... I wasn't drinking nearly enough as I should until I did this (I'm not a fan of juice)
  • For me, its not always the taste that I can't stand, but drinking too much at once makes me nauseous.  So, I try and carry a big thing of water with me and refill it as needed.  This way I can drink smaller amounts more often.
