Pregnant after a Loss

Am I being too cautious?

So DH has been all over me about going somewhere for our 10th anniversary which is in October.  He now wants me to fly down with him to DC in October as he has a conference down there.  Disregarding the fact that I don't know if I want to spend the entire day alone while he's at the conference...I'm scared to fly.  I will be 25-26 weeks along.  It's not that I'm per se scared to actually get on the plane - I'm more nervous about being that far away from my doctor.

I will, of course, ask my doctor if he has any restrictions or objections.  But is this just me being too cautious?  I really don't want to disappoint DH - he's mentioned so many times how he wants me to go somewhere with him before the baby is born - but I'm also really really scared.

Re: Am I being too cautious?

  • I can empathize with you 100%.  I was scheduled to go on two work-related events, one in Nova Scotia and one in Ohio and I backed out of both for the very same reasons.  I asked my doctor and she said I'd be fine, medically, to fly and travel without restriction, but what it came down to was my comfort level with it.  My work, thankfully, is very understanding and accommodating and were able to find replacements for me.  I am really happy I went with my gut and opted not to go.  Do what feels right to you!!

  • I am flying this weekend (23 weeks) and am  to fly in October when I'll be 30 weeks. My Drs have already told me as long as all seems well, I can go.

I think the best thing for you to do is talk to your Dr. Hopefully he can reassure you, or give you a reason why you shouldn't fly, and then you can make up your mind from there.

  • I think that you could definitely have a lovely, safe trip with your DH at that point.

If, after talking to your doctor, you are still feeling panicked about flying, could you and DH come up with a compromise trip somewhere within driving distance? Some cozy b&b for a long weekend, or something like that?

  • I'm 28 weeks tomorrow and just flew MD to GA today for the week for work, I got the OK from my dr and even had an appointment on Friday just to make sure all is still well. I was nervous too but have been here a few hours and so far so good :) It really comes down to what you're comfortable with.
