Semantics on ttc after D&E

I had a D&E yesterday. My dr said wait two cycles to ttc again. I'm trying to figure out the details of what waiting two cycles actually means as I don't want to call this weekend on call. I'm sorry if I'm being an idiot. I'm trying to focus on future positives.

So after my procedure my hcg levels will fall. Once they go to zero (say two weeks to zero hopefully bc I only made it to 500) will I get a period at zero or in 4 weeks bc the D&E took the place of the period? Then I'm confused, the period after that period would be cycle 2- right? So I can't try on the ovulation 2 weeks later, right? I need wait for actually 3 periods and try on that cycle? I'm just confused what "wait 2 cycles" actually means.

What has been your experience on when your period returned after D&E? I'm looking forward to ttc again and staying positive. TIA. I've read a lot on ttc after D&C and D&E but no one talks about what actually counts as first cycle. :-/

Your first cycle after your d&e starts after your first period, so if you were told to wait 2 cycles, I'm pretty sure that means you need to wait until after 2 full cycles (TTC again during the third).

ETA: I missed the first question about when your period will show up. There's really no way of knowing. I was lucky and mine showed up about 2.5 weeks after my surgery. Some people wait much, much longer. The D&E didn't take the place of your period, but there's really no way of knowing how soon your period will show up.

No insight, just wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss. Welcome to the board.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I agree with PP's, in my follow up appointment the doctor said to wait 2 full cycles, excluding the d&c. It took about 6 weeks for me to get a period, but it's different for everyone.

Sorry for your loss.

My understanding would be after 2 periods. From now until you get your first period is cycle 1, that period to #2 is cycle 2. So then you would be able to start TTC.

Thanks everyone for your input. I hate uncertainty and just waiting. I aprreciate your sharing when your AF returned. I'm hoping for a short return too.

FX for a quick return. The uncertainty of it is super frustrating.

Mine took 42 days to show, but only now is starting to seem more "normal". (My D&C was Feb 28.)

You could always call next week during normal office hours and ask to clarify, or ask in more detail at your follow up appointment.  I was a little unclear on what my doctor's instructions were re: when I could TTC again, so I talked to her about it more at my appointment and cleared things up.

FWIW, there is no clear consensus among OB/GYNs as far as how much time to wait after a first trimester d&c.  I specifically asked my doctor why she recommended a particular amount of time and found it helpful to hear he reasoning.
