Trying to Get Pregnant

Is this weird or normal? (Define Normal? ;) )

Hello Bumpies,

I have a weird occurrence happening with my cycle that frustrates me. If anyone has experienced this please let me know.

My cycle is 28 days and sometimes 29.
Current symptoms: sensitive breasts and a little nauseous but not extreme.

I took an At Home Pregnancy Test (second day after the missed period) that was Clearblue Digital and it said Not Pregnant. I know this means no.

Currently on the 4th day of missing my period and no sign that it is coming.

The last time this happened I was over a week late and then started my period. According to my charting this is happening every other month and it is getting a little old for my sake and the DH.

I go to the doctor on Monday to have my annual but also to start the first step of blood tests but I just want to know if others have had this issue in the past and if I should be frustrated by it.

Thank you all!

  • I am going to be nice about this. If this keeps happening the only way to really know if you are late  or not is to take your bbt and track that. If you are not tracking when you actually ovulate than you won't truly know if your are late or not since not every woman has a normal schedule where they ovulate on the same day every cycle.

This is great advice.  And since you say that it's happening every other cycle, it's probably just your normal.

When you say you are charting, do you mean by temping to confirm ovulation?  Or are you using another program?

Usually your period isn't late-- you may ovulate later in your cycle, but your period should arrive 12-16 days after ovulation (sometimes less if you have short luteal phase).

  • Three years ago. Do you think it could be my hormones?
  • If every other month your cycle is longer than 28/29 days, then your cycle is not "28 days and sometimes 29"

  • I chart with fertility friend. I don't chart my temps. We have been trying for a year and I tried temping for the first few months but I am what someone told me is a mouth breather. So my temp has never given me a good indication. I did do the opks and I ovulate around the 15 to 18 days.

I'm guessing this is the answer to when you came off birth control? Use the quote button so that we know who you are talking to.

I think (like other people have said) that your cycle is not always going to be 28/29 days and that's fine. Start tracking your basal body temperature.

Everyone keeps telling me to do my basal body temperature and I tried that for a few months but it never showed anything other than I run hotter than normal all the time.
  • What PP have said. Try temping again and this time do it vaginally so you can breathe out of your mouth all you want and it won't matter.

@sonnee0308 "Running hotter than normal" is not an issue.  It's a pattern that you are looking for.  You would still be able to pin-point Ovulation.
  • What are you having blood tests for?

You mentioned charting, are you temping?

Can you link whatever chart you have?
Standard blood tests to check my hormone levels.

    For what reason?

I was informed that after trying for two years or more that is the next step to determining if infertility is a problem.

Okay, then. I'll address your original point. Cycles can vary. As long as you don't have 60 consecutive days without a period, don't bother your doctor. Until then, you're in the normal range. If you want a better handle on it, TEMP. Vaginally. Or don't. Not my underwear you're ruining.
You don't need to be rude about it. I was just asking questions and having follow up questions on the situation. I have never been pregnant before (and by the looks of it never will). You need to seriously reconsider how you comment on people's questions because we all aren't as knowledgeable in this area as you obviously are and come from different situations and backgrounds than you.

To help educate people about their cycles, we posted this thread called "READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST" and it link to a blog where lots of things about your cycles are explained.  It includes follicular phases, luteal phases, and basal body temping information, among other things.  We also link to "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and the tutorials on www.fertilityfriend.com.

Just reading this will explain that your ovulation day dictates your cycle length, previous cycle lengths have no bearing on future cycle lengths, and that you are only late if you go past your longest luteal phase time.

We're giving you the resources if you take the time to actually read the site and understand how this community works.
Thank you for the information. I have read that post but I am new to the site and haven't fully studied that post. I will have to print it and reference it for every time I want to post a question about something that confuses me. Thank you for you time.

You are correct that testing is appropriate after 2 years of trying but I would request a referral to an RE asap.  Also a sperm analysis for your partner is important as well.

Sorry for the confusion. I tried temping for a year and then we have been trying to conceive for two years.

Yea, weren't you the one who took the lazy route of expecting everyone to just answer all of your questions instead of going to the first post on the board that has all the information for you! Research yo! Learn how to.

Posted in May.... SO OP! Is it 1, 2, or 3? You get to pick.

I have been trying for almost three years.

I have taken my temperature and tried to chart it. (doesn't work I am always warmer than normal I never see a spike).

I have taken OPKs. I know when I am ovulating.

I have been using fertility friend.

My cycle is 28 days (it is on time every time). I ovulate on the 22nd day usually sometimes earlier. My friend suggested that we are trying too much so we did the baby dance every couple days. We have tried that for a couple months and it hasn't worked obviously.

I have take the Fertility Blend pills and they have changed my cycle where my period last exactly 5 days. But I am still in the 28 cycle.

I don't want to take fertility drugs but that seems like the next best thing because I don't know what I am doing wrong.

A six day LP is really a cause for concern.
  • Hello Everyone,

Obviously, I need to rethink my dates because I am getting all mixed up or just have them completely wrong. Sorry for the errors everyone.

I will defiantly research the New Blogger post as I have noticed that asking questions on this type of matter is not welcome in the form.  I was under the impression that it was a free for all but in that I was wrong as well.

I am sorry I offended you all with my question. I hope your successful in conceiving soon.

    Lesson learned.
