No one Using the Baby Registry

Has anyone had issues with guests just not using the baby registry? My husband and I are having our first baby and we registered for everything at babies r us. Our shower is in a few days and I noticed no one has bought anything off the registry. Any suggestions?

Not sure what kind of suggestions you are looking for?  I almost never buy from the registry, though I will have a look at it to see what type of things the MTB has in mind.  Purchasing off the registry isn't a requirement, and quite frankly some of the best gifts I received when  my kids were babies were things that I never would have thought to ask for.  Don't worry about the registry, enjoy your shower and buy what you are lacking afterward.

I got pretty much all gift cards and huge packages of diapers and a lot of outfits. A few bought off the registry. Some people like to make quilts or diaper cakes. It's all good stuff. No worries. You can donate stuff you can't return and don't want.

This is not an "issue." A registry is a list of items you plan to buy yourself. Guests of registries may use them as suggestions to make gift-buyingeasier; or they may buy you something they choose themselves. That is their prerogative; their money = their choice. This is not a problem that requires suggestions for how to "deal with." From i ternet strangers. You should be prepared to buy any and all baby necessities yourself. Anything off that list that is purchased for you is just a bonus.

It is annoying, I understand. We are far away from showers but will end up having 3 because family lives far away. I would be fine without having one at all! 

We started an Amazon registry (currently hidden) and have researched all the stuff we want. I don't really care if anyone gets me anything, but I will not be thrilled if we get other brands of things we specifically registered for. We budgeted for baby and can easily afford everything we have on our registry, so although I want to go buy it all now we have to wait because people wantto get things for us. Whatever we don't get, we get a 20% off 30 days prior to due date and will get everything else and return other stuff.  Really though, there is nothing you can do except be grateful for anything anyone wants to give you. You aren't obligated to keep it or like it, but you should be genuinely thankful.

We aren't finding out the sex of our baby and I have heard that that helps a lot when it comes to getting gifts from your registry. Since people don't get distracted by the cute blue and pink crap. My best friend had two showers and barely has anything from her registry, but she has 10x the amount of clothes her newborn will ever wear, and after 3 months she will need to buy some more because all of her clothes are newborn or 0-3 mos!

Make sure you are gracious, send thank you cards promptly, and buy whatever you don't get as gifts.

Not finding out the sex of your baby to manipulate the type of gifts your family and friends buy is very gross.

OP, just to reiterate what's been said: the majority of people shop for a shower the day before or the day of. Lots of people don't shop off the registry. Return what you don't want/need and use your completion coupon to buy what's on your registry. And, above all, accept ALL gifts with grace and gratitude.

Suggestions?  I would find new friends and disown your family.  What else can you do really?  I mean you took time out of your busy life to put together a list of things people should buy you...and they aren't doing it!  I mean, if they won't provide needed items for your child, who should?

So much wrong.

My first instinct upon reading this: you fail. So much.

a) You decided to get KTFU. No one other than your SO climbed on top of you for intercourse, I assume. If my assumption is correct, it is no one elses job, save yours and your SO, to provide for your baby.
b) Continuing point a: no one, regardless of relation, is on the hook to buy you anything. You are responsible for all baby things: diapers, wipes, clothes, feeding cupplies, food, crib, car seat, stroller.... babies cost mad money, yo.
c) Clothes can be returned and exchanged.
d) There's a shitton more than things your child will need in life that you don't put on a baby registry. What're you going to do then? Start a kickstarter campaign?

Oh, good Lord. Don't give the tackies any ideas.

All I want to know is why oh why do people feel the need to peek at the registries?  Don't you want to be excited by the surprise of what you may or may not get?!  WTF?  This makes me think that the whole reason you are having the shower is solely for gifts?!  Enjoy your guests and whatever you are lucky enough to get for pete's sake...

OP, have you actually read any of the posts on here?

Be grateful that people care enough to take time out of their life to purchase you a gift and go to your shower.

The registry is a guide line of items you would prefer. Maybe people do not live near a BRU, maybe they want to give you something that personally speaks to them. They are still spending their time and money on you. Smile and say thank you.

I am Mrs. Practicality and ALWAYS buy from the registry! However I have faced the fact that not everyone is like that, so whenever my showers come around I will be thankful for whatever gifts I can receive and there is always the option of exchanging unwanted gifts for things you really liked.

Please consider that I do need these items for baby and I will probably have too many cute outfits already. I appreciate anything you bring BUT I am counting on lots of gifts from my registry. I think people would buy em. Especially if I could match their "themed" invites...

Maybe you should have lurked here a bit before you asked this question.  Registries are suggestions to your guests of things you'd like to have.  They aren't a contract; your guests are not obligated to shop off of them.

Some of my favorite wedding gifts were not registry items. I'm a FTM and I've been to a lot of baby showers. I've only bought from the registry once and that was because I went in with a bunch of other people to get a "bigger" item the baby needed. People want to buy clothes and other stuff like that. I only put things we needed on our baby registry so I can go buy it with our completion discount. There are no clothes and no blankets. If we get registry stuff great if not, no problem!
