That is what is really driving me crazy about whole post. I love the Amen Sister agreement, then when the teachers and their supporters come out in full force people realize what an ass they looked like and back off. Way to make a point people. I just lost repsect for a few douches on here!
In my bag: Nikon D90; 35mm 1.8, 90mm 2.8 macro (my fave), Lensbaby Composer with macro extensions. BFP after 13 cycles and one ectopic. Lost left tube 5/19/10.
She seemed to be so strong in her OP, but then seemingly backed down when her post wasn't supported. I would like to see what she has to say now that people responded.

I edited that to clarify what I meant because after I read what I wrote, I realized that it came off wrong. I meant amen to the fact that other professions work hard too, not that teacher don't. I have the utmost respect for teachers. Some of my best friends are teachers.
I profusely apologize for not being more clear in my original post and if I insulted anyone. I am usually WAY more clear than that, but I am juggling my toddler!

wow. That post pissed me off. I responded to it late, so I don't know if anyone will even see what I wrote, but I had to say something. ?Someone's swimming in a big bucket of ignorant today.
Femm I have never understood that whole lost respect because of a post thing until now! I also lost respect for people, I hate it when people show their real colors, I would still like to see the world through rose colored glasses.

I agree. There's not much on here that really upsets me like this did.

I read it and even quoted you! You said exactly what I've been thinking but have been unable to put together so eloquently.

Sorry, but I had to lol at the my best friends are teachers defense. I find it amusing. Anyone else? No? Okay then.
Anyway, it was a stupid post for the OP to make, end of story. How does one defend something like that? I'd like to see her respond. At least then she would be upping her post count honestly, instead of cheating her way to gold status.
I never get offended by what people say on here. However, that post really aggrivated me. I came back on to see where it would go. I am glas to see all the support for teachers.
I did not even respond right away because I did not even know what to say. Uggg..some people!

LOL! But it's like saying, "you're a b!tch, but your hair looks nice." See how the follow up makes it better?=)
I think people are getting WAY bent out of shape about, really, nothing.
She didn't say that teachers don't work hard. She just said that others work just as hard. That's all a matter of opinion anyway.
Do I think I work as hard as a teacher? Hell no! Do I think teachers tend to overjustify their work hours in some circustances? Yes. Do I think they have every right to (due to people thinking they have a "cushy" job)? Of course.
And yes, teachers DO have summers off. Sure, my good friends (two of them are teachers) go back in to the classroom 2 weeks before school starts again -- and get set up, get ready, etc. And sure, they take work home as well. But if you think that either of them would tell you that they work LONG tedious hours -- nope. They are AWESOME teachers too. But they manage their time well. One of them has two kids herself. She is able to bring them to dance, ice skating, girl scouts, etc (they have a wicked busy schedule) every night. And she also says to me every June "Can't wait for my summer off!" Of course they have summers off. To rebute that is silly.
Again, OP wasn't even all that offensive. She was only saying that teachers tend to complain about their # of working hours when there are other professions that work just as many hours, with less complaints. And again, that's due to the fact that some people think teachers have a "cushy" job. Just think --- could you imagine going to work every day to be berated, lied to, cussed at, threatened, ignored, have no authority, be called a liar ---- I could go on and on.
I think the main point of why people got so offended Jodi, was that this mindset is pretty pervasive amongst the general population about teachers. Like someone in that original thread said, she'd never dream of calling out accountants, or doctors, or other professions for complaining about their hours, workload, etc., because she's not walking in their shoes and therefore doesn't really know what goes into being successful in their career.
There's this pervasive attitude in this country that teachers are somehow fair game to bash for every little thing they do and/or don't do, including the here and there kvetch about the hours and the money. ?I think the reaction that a lot of teachers and former teachers (like myself) had to that post is, in part, because we've heard that crap before and it hits a nerve. ?

Niki read your edit, Thanks!!
I'm still all riled up about that post. I just responded to it yet again. I need to get out more.
And I also lost respect for some people on here. I hate it when that happens.
