***<><>AMA weekly check-in<><>***
This check-in is for Friday, August 1, 2014.
Hey all my lovely ladies! I hope the last two weeks have been kind to you. (((Hugs))) to any who need them.
I’m sorry that I did a P&R last time with the check-in. I was not in the best head space at the moment. Extra thanks to everyone for answering questions and responding to everyone!

@katib77 - Any news on the house? How was the festival?

@HoldingOutHope - What’s up with all of the crazy (bad/dipshit/just should not be doctors) OBs lately? I’m sorry she did not have the courtesy to even look at your chart before spewing b.s. everywhere. How did your consult with Dr. Braverman go?

@yellowcat10 - How are you doing on the BCP? I hope it does the trick on getting rid of your cyst. Where you able to close on your house?

@meredithcarole - (((hugs))) any decisions on what to do about your fibroids. We have two grads from this check-in, BootsOrHearts and SoxFan777, who had fibroids removed. You might PM for their advice/stories.

@VesperLynch - How’s that floor coming along? I’m really, really, hoping that it’s done!

@gscoville - I’m so jealous of your LeakyCon trip! How was it? And how was your doctor appointment? I know you saw that post on TTGP that was talking about excessive spotting being related to that poster’s cervix, did you ask you OB about that?

@mlal78 - So many (((hugs))). Are you going to start femara this cycle?

@tlc35- ((((Hugs))))). I’m sorry for the BFN last cycle. How is the knitting going? I bought a book that is supposed to be pretty good but I have not got more than a couple rows into my scarf. I never seem to have enough time to just do it and always have to start over from scratch. I also hate the yarn that came with the book so I may go buy some yarn I like . . .

@sunflwra - Big ((((hugs)))). Have you got any test results back yet? I know you have a bunch lined up for Monday.

@rubysi - How did the interviews for your assistant go?

@lesliem0901 - How are you doing? I’m so excited for you that your IVF cycle is giving started!

@BookishMama - I’m sorry about the news of the endometrioma being on your ovary. I have one remaining ovary that also has an endometrioma on it. My RE said essentially the same thing as yours about removing it (this was when I was pre-35 but already had a DOR dx). That ovary can still produce healthy eggs - mine did - they just may have a tougher time and a few more odds against them. Do you have your first IUI scheduled yet?

To anyone who missed last week’s check-in: how are you?

Re: ***<><>AMA weekly check-in<><>***

  • My update - Still waiting on test results and trying to decide if I want to switch to a different OB prior to my follow-up on 8/11. Ugh. I miss my AZ OB!

We got today off from the project I'm on with instructions to come back on Monday. We have some more work so that is good. Not sure how long it will last but I'll take all of the extra days I can get!

The house is moving along nicely. My H got two out of three of our major projects done last weekend: hanging the new hood above the stove and hanging a shelf and a couple rods in the kitchen for storage. The kitchen is pretty tiny and has only three base cabinets (not counting the sink). The ones that have drawers are narrow so we had no place to put our silverware. When I was looking for space saving/storage solutions for my home office, I came across the shelf and bar system that IKEA has. Here is how it turned out:

    image

Next up is painting the cabinets. We will probably start at the end of this month but our goal was to do it by the end of September. One good thing about having a small kitchen - it won't take long to paint the cabinets :)

  • Hey, Bug! Thanks for the check-in, lovely. Are you actually enjoying a day off? :) When will you get the results of your biopsy?

@HoldingOutHope - What’s up with all of the crazy (bad/dipshit/just should not be doctors) OBs lately? I’m sorry she did not have the courtesy to even look at your chart before spewing b.s. everywhere. How did your consult with Dr. Braverman go?

I don't know WHAT is up with these crazy OBs lately! Thankfully my RE will give me a new recommendation when I go in for my follow-up, because I just can't settle for sub-par anymore. When I need an OB, I have enough shit to worry about, never mind incompetence! Thank you for understanding, though. :)

My phone consult with Dr. Braverman went really well. I got a lot of good info from both him and his staff. He had info on my history prior to the call, and although it was just a hunch/totally unconfirmed, he mentioned silent endo is often a cause of repeat BO and it has a very close tie with thyroid disease. I thought that was interesting, and honestly nobody has ever mentioned that to me before.

So here is my current plan... We follow up with our RE on the 18th and will hear our final test results at that appt (karyotyping & autoimmune clotting panel). If the test results give us no answers, I know my RE is leaning toward a medicated TI protocol. IF (that's a very big "if") she can convince me that would somehow improve my egg quality or can give me some proof that it would up my chances of keeping a pg, then I will give it a go. If I'm uncomfortable with the plan, then we will officially register with Dr. Braverman, go through his enormous panel of immunological testing, and then go up to meet with him 6 weeks later.

So much is up in the air, but for now that's how I am planning to proceed. Like I've said, right now we're fairly certain we can't handle more than one more loss, so I'm trying to use this potential last chance wisely. :-S

    Edit: spelling is hard
I am so glad your consult with Braverman went well! How interesting about the silent endo - I have not heard that either but I know that endo produces antibodies (I'm blanking on what the actual term is that it produces) that are thought to attack the egg, so even if you have a genetically perfect egg released, the endo can damage the egg as it travels to meet the sperm. It's also why some REs are recommending for endo patients to skip IUI and go straight to IVF.

Since the above was depressing, here is the doctor our current OBs remind me of:

I don't have a schedule yet for IUI because the first hurdle I need to get past is having an operative hysteroscopy to remove retained product from my D&C. I'm supposed to call my RE's office on CD1 to schedule the procedure for within the first few days of my cycle. Apparently that's when it's easier for the doc to see in there, since my lining will be thinner at that time. After that, I'm really hoping we won't be benched for long before we can move on to meds + IUI, but it really depends on how the surgery goes and what my doc says.

Yes, that's exactly right! I'll be sure to mention this to the RE as well and get her thoughts. Nobody has ever evaluated me for endo because I don't have any of the typical signs. But you never know, I guess.

In my first consult with my RE, I asked him about endo, since my mom had it and had to have a hysterectomy when she was in her late 40s. He didn't seem concerned about it at the time and said the endo-miscarriage link is unclear/unproven, blah blah. But then when he did my hysteroscopy, he showed me a 2cm endo cyst on my ovary, which he could see with the scope. Obviously a cyst can't be "confirmed" as endo without a lap procedure and biopsy or whatever, but he showed me the characteristics of it and what made him think it was endo. Seeing that made him come to the conclusion that we should speed up our TTC time table with IUI, since unsuppressed endo is progressive.

In my own, un-fancy non-medical words, this is the way I see it: I was on the pill for years and years. And in the last year or so, since I've had 3 losses and have had pregnancy hormones in my system off and on during that time period, my endo was probably not an issue. Pregnancy hormones tend to stop endo from growing. But now that my HcG levels are negative and I'm not on the pill, the endo has decided now is a good time to grow.

FWIW, I also don't have any symptoms that I recognized as endo, but the more I read about the disease, the more I recognize my vague hormonal symptoms as possibly related. Recurrent miscarriage is one symptom. So are migraines, bloating, intestinal issues around O, and brutal PMS. All of which I have. I have zero pelvic pain except for the occasional O pain.

  • Hi Bug! The kitchen is looking great! I can't wait to see it with painted cabinets. What color are you going to do?

@HoldingOutHope‌ I am sorry so much is up in the air, but I am glad you got your consult and it has given you food for thought. Whichever path you go down next I know you'll be doing the best thing.

@BookishMomma‌ I will keep you in my thoughts with your upcoming procedure. Glad that retained tissue will no longer be a problem.

@meredithcarole - (((hugs))) any decisions on what to do about your fibroids. We have two grads from this check-in, BootsOrHearts and SoxFan777, who had fibroids removed. You might PM for their advice/stories.

I very well may PM the grads for their suggestions. It is hard to know what to do when the doctors say they don't "think" that your fibroids are the problem. Maybe they are not, but they could be. I don't want to waste the chance to do something about them (since we have hit our deductible). I am going to try this month, but if nothing comes of it I think I will bench myself and try to get them taken care of. I would like to not think of them as a potential problem.

Gotcha. I don't know why I was thinking you had the hysteroscopy done already. Did you RE talk to you at all about doing Lupron suppression to bring down your endometrisis? It's more bench time but it could raise your odds too.

ETA - I just read your response to HOH. I was on BCP for 10 years or so and had my first surgical lap a year or so after going off of it. I don't know if it grew quickly afterwards or if it had developed a lot while I was a teen and then just stayed the same for a long time.

My endo was confirmed by a lap and my symptoms are pretty minor. I would say intestinal issues around CD1 being the biggest - which makes sense in my case because some of my endo is on my intestines.

They both are awesome ladies. Boots had multiple fibroids and, I think, more than one surgery. Boots can definitely give you better advice than I can.

  • Hi there, Bug, and thank you for checking in! That storage system is genius for a small space. I'm curious, too, what color you have in mind for the cabinets. I hope you get your lab results soon. And it can be such a tough decision about switching doctors. I hope it works out!

Here, I'm in the 2ww. I may or may not POAS Tuesday. I'd honestly rather not, but DH will ask if I have, so I'm sure I'll do it. On the NTTCAL front--yay, the floor is done! I inserted a pic below; floor boards won't be installed until next week. But we're really happy with the floor and a bit proud too :-)

    That looks great!

We are thinking about an off-white with maybe a touch of grey in it. We want the kitchen to be brighter and I think the grey would pull out some neat tones in the granite.

  • Hi ladies!
Thanks for the check-in @buggirl72. I love what you did with your kitchen space. The utensil containers are super cute!

@HoldingOutHope - So sorry for what you're dealing with but it sounds like you have a plan and a couple of options in place. Best of luck to you.

@BookishMomma - You are in my thoughts. I had a cyst biopsyed for the same reasons. Luckily it came back benign.

@meredithcarole - I'm hoping the fibroids do not require removal, but understand your reasoning for wanting them gone. Hugs...

@VesperLynch - Love the floor! Everything crossed for you this cycle!

@lesliem0901 - How are you doing? I’m so excited for you that your IVF cycle is giving started!

    I'm also
getting excited to get this show on the road, but also scared. The RE put me on Synthroid and it's making me feel a little off, like my head is cloudy. Waiting on the results of DH's SA. I had a SIS on Monday and everything looked good. I go in next week for b/w and u/s and hopefully start Estrace. It's really starting to feel real.

  • Hi everyone. I am on the road (we decided to to a short east coast beach tour). We started in Va Beach and are ending at MH family in Connecticut.

Sorry I cannot respond to everyone, but ((HUGS)) to those who need them, sounds like a lot of shitty doctors and waiting out procedures. I have 5 more days of BCP then hopefully we can start the IUI.

  • Hey ladies! I have been mia for a bit and I am finally getting caught up with the posts.

You guys have so much going on.
Hugs to those that may need them and high fives to everyone having good days :)

@ buggirl72 I love IKEIA also! Just got the new book to mull over. The closest one is an hour or so away...which is a good thing. I have my pots hanging from a rack a bit bigger than yours with my mixing bowls stacked on the shelf.

@VesperLynch‌ love the floor! Is it cork?

AFM: I've been in and out of town for work and a little vacationing in between. I have been helping a a friends car audio and tint shop, learning to tint cars. He has a few guys that are unreliable and I made the comment, heck let me learn I'll help out. And he said sure. It's funny watching them pick up their game now that I'm there. One guy is a little huffy but he's an idiot and will get over it.

On the ttc front I am cd8 and just finished a 3-7 round of 50mg clomid. Nothing much to see on my chart because I just found my basil and temped for the first time in a few weeks. I need to get OPKs tomorrow yay!

Whelp that's it for now....missed you guys :)

    My Ovulation Chart
  • Still at LeakyCon and having a frigging blast - private event until 2 am at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Universal Studios was on Wednesday, and last night I got to meet John Green, I'm riding a pretty awesome NTTCALR high at the moment!

I had my appointment July 24 and, well, not so high-inducing unfortunately. Finally, FINALLY got in to see my OB after two cancelled appointments March and April and having to wait three months for this one, and finally my 'spotting' is eliciting some concern and action. Bad news right off is that we have been told to stop TTC for now, we need to get to the bottom of things. I'd be more disappointed, but to be honest I'm concerned enough about the spotting to know it's for the best at this point in time. Now I call what happens spotting, but as I explained to him it's actually bleeding many days - sorry for TMI, but many days of that week to two weeks before my period where I spot is actually blood in the toilet, heavy dark red when I wipe, some days have to wear a pad not just a panty liner. The only reason I have for calling one of those days CD1 with any certainty is it's when I get massive cramps, otherwise I'd have nothing definitive to pin the label CD1 to. I happened to be on a non-spotting day (I get about 5-7 non-bleeding days around O) so he did a pap/internal exam and is sending that off for testing, should be a few more weeks for results. Because we were technically still TTC this cycle (i.e. having unprotected sex, we weren't charting or officially trying to time things), he wants to wait until my next cycle to make sure I'm not KU so he can do further testing; he's having me do an ultrasound, more bloodwork, and I'm to call when my next period starts so I can schedule to get in when I won't be bleeding again so he can do a biopsy of my cervix.

Mixed in with all of this is a weird little problem I'm having with my head. For months now I've had this thing where I get short bursts of light-headedness throughout the day, up to every 10-20 seconds or so, and I've had a few massive headaches around the back of my head/top of my neck and which actually present with difficulty swallowing and altered vision. I got sent in by my GP a few weeks ago for a CT scan and it looks like I have lipomas (fatty lesions) in my sella turcica - its the little 'cup' in which the pituitary sits. So my GP, reading those CT results, has me scheduled for an MRI next week to investigate further. When I mentioned all this to my OB, he said it's very possible my pituitary is being affected and thus causing my hormones to be out of whack somehow. But we'll know more after my BW/biopsy/MRI results all come back.

So yeah, lots going on and my head is a mess. Literally. I'm trying not to worry about it all, but I'd be lying if I said the thought of something being seriously wrong deep in my brain isn't scaring the shit out of me. I'm really trying to put it all out of my mind and just enjoy this week away, because the next few weeks will be full of tests and procedures and, ultimately, reminders that our TTC journey seems to have come to a screeching halt, and I can't bring myself to even start to process that. Not right now. I'm good at procrastination, so immersion in a fantasy Harry Potter world is the theme of the week!

@holdingouthope I'm glad your phone consult went well and medicated cycles and/or immune treatment work for you.

@meredithcarole I'm sorry the fibroids have you concerned and hopefully you can find a plan that makes you comfortable.

    @vesperlynch your floor looks great!

@bookishmama I hope your hysteroscopy goes well and you aren't benched for too long. I hate how AMA makes time tick by so much faster.

@yellowcat10 and @gscoville have fun on your trips!

@tablefor5 and @lesliem0901 fx for your medicated cycles!

AFM: My knitting is going OK. I can't seem to get the transition right between purl and knit so I made a scarf with knit stitches only. My SIL and her family are visiting so we have been doing touristy things with them which has been fun.
On the TTC front I am leaving this cycle on CD 16 for my last stint at this out of town job so it may be a bust unless my ovaries get it together. I also emailed the larger fertility clinic in town to see when they thought I should move on from just TTC on our own. I have heard conflicting things about "restarting the clock" after a loss and this is month 6 since we first started TTC. They suggested that with my age and history I shouldn't wait more than 2 more months before making an appointment. So depending on if we get reasonable timing this month I will make an appt for october or november. I feel good to have a plan but it is also kinda sad to admit that we may need help.

  • Hi ladies,
@buggirl72‌ good job on the kitchen organizing! Good use of tiny space.

@HoldingOutHope‌ good luck with Dr braverman.

@BookishMomma‌ - hope the IUI is just around the corner.

@meredithcarole‌ - my IF friend got pg right after removal of her fibroids. I always thing if they're big enough to see well on US its best to get them removed, imho.

@VesperLynch‌ - nice floors! Good luck with the rest of your 2ww.

@Lesliem0901‌ - good luck with your IVF prep!

@yellowcat10‌ - enjoy your trip and good luck with the IUI!

@Tablefor5‌ - hope the clomid has treated you OK. FX for good follie(s)!

@gscoville‌ - hope they can figure out wth is going on! (With both issues) but enjoy the rest of leakycon. Did I miss a post with a pic of your costume?

@tlc35‌ - I know admitting you need help is hard, but it feels good to have a *little* control.

AFM - the fest was great! Five days of fun, drinking, and exhaustion but think I'm finally caught up on sleep again. We learned last Friday Bank of America sold the mortgage on the house to a smaller bank (in a big block of sales) so now we hve to start all over again with the short sale with the new bank. At this rate I hope we move in before Christmas ugh.
My second edd date is on Thursday and it's starting to make me anxious with anxiety. And I'm still consciously trying to have sex in my fw so clearly I just can't fully let go into the cfnbc world... but at least I wasn't sad over getting af and have very very low expectations I guess.

Hey ladies! I have been mia for a bit and I am finally getting caught up with the posts. You guys have so much going on. Hugs to those that may need them and high fives to everyone having good days :) @ buggirl72 I love IKEIA also!
Welcome back! What a fun skill to pick up and I love that the guys are working harder now that you are there!

Good luck with the clomid - with my last clomid cycle, my temps were elevated for about two days or so after stopping the clomid and then they went back to normal pre-O range. I was easily able to see a shift when I actually did O.

Still at LeakyCon and having a frigging blast - private event until 2 am at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Universal Studios was on Wednesday, and last night I got to meet John Green, I'm riding a pretty awesome NTTCALR high at the moment!

Oh honey! First, I am so glad that your doctor is finally taking your spotting seriously! About damn time that decided to investigate further. Second, ((((hugs)))). I hope they can get some answers quickly. I had a friend that had a benign mass near his pituitary and they treated it with medication. I'm not sure if it ever went away or if they just addressed the hormone side effects that he had (low T) from the mass messing with the pituitary.

Try, try, try to enjoy yourself! LeakyCon must be absolutely amazing!

FX that you O in time before you leave and have good timing.

I'm glad you called and double checked the timeline. With AMA, you just don't want to waste 6 months waiting until it is "okay" to call the RE. I'm glad you have a plan on when to call. Instead of thinking of it as needing help, maybe think of it as a plan to get more aggressive in what you are doing?

That does not seem right! Grrrrr . . . well, I hope the smaller bank is on the ball and gets you an answer. BofA sucks balls IMHO.

After so long of trying, I think it is hard to not be aware of fertile week. Eight years after getting my IF dx, I remember thinking "wow, our timing would have been great if I was able to get pg," so, I'm not sure it ever really goes away. We are aware of what is going on with our bodies and it is hard to turn that awareness off.

Big, big ((((hugs)))) for your up coming EDD. Do you have any plans for that day?

I have to work from 3-10:30 that night but during the day I plan to do what I did for my first loss - take the camera and go photograph something beautiful as a keepsake of the day that *could have been* and remind myself the world is still a beautiful and amazing place. Once in the new home I hope to frame my fav one from each day to hang in one of the guest bedrooms.

@katib77 - Wow...this brought tears to my eyes. Big hugs to you on Thursday. I would love to see what you photograph.
