Infertility

Any other mid-atlantic/ general DC area ladies here? Comparing treatment/IVF locations.

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else is in my area?   I am trying to get an idea of the financial options and treatment places for IVF.   We are currently at Dominion, but cannot afford the cost of IVF there.  Wondering if shady grove might be less expensive (or other options).

As it stands,  we are considering doing our monitoring at Dominion and having our IVF at CNY.    Just want to make sure we are not missing anything closer to home that we might actually be able to afford.

TIA

  • Hey there. I'm at sgf. They are def pricey too. I'm not sure the price difference but they do offer the shared risk program which was 22,000 for our ivf cycles.

  • I'm at Shady Grove in Annandale. When I compared Shady Grove and Dominion's pricing they were almost identical. The one big difference (price-wise) I saw was that Dominion will allow you to know/select the gender of the embryos for an additional fee if you are doing the PGD.

I didn't research the pricing at any of the other clinics because the SART data for Shady Grove was so much better than for the other clinics in the area.

And, I don't know if this was covered, but if you don't have prescription coverage, you may end up spending as much on the meds as for the treatment (I spent more on meds with my last IVF than I paid for the IVF treatment; unfortunately, I didn't go for the shared risk program).

  • Also at SG.  And it's pricey.  I do know that people travel to SG for the shared risk program.

  • You make a good point regarding med costs.  This is just insane to me!

I was quoted 600 to 800 per day of monitoring in town for out of town IVF.   I have no idea yet how many days of monitoring I would require.

  • Also at shady grove! Didn't even look into other places because it's very convenient and their success rates are so high. I also have 2 personal friends who have 4 kids (2 each) that are a product of SG :) I am doing Multi cycle discount at $16,000. My meds were around $4200. Everything is OOP for us. We are unexplained with no big issues other then my problems with not ovulating/high hormone levels.

  • At SG too after switching from GW. It's all so expensive so we didn't even compare costs but went where we thought we had the best chance of success.
Ready to take the road less traveled.

Do you have a dr that you reccomend?  We are considering the natural cycle IVF potentially, although 16k for multi-cycles seems a bit less expensive then what we were quoted (I assume it is two fresh cycles)?

  • I am with Dominion.  The Natural Cycle IVF OOP is around $4500.  But I don't remember if this include the ET or not.
  • How are you all liking your experience at Shady Grove?  I'd be looking into the Annandale campus.  I've done one IUI (BFN) at Washington Fertility Center...but the more I reflect on the experience overall, not sure I want to go back especially considering the cost of IVF, which is what was recommended as my next step.  Anyone care you share their experiences with the doctors, nurses, etc?
