Are you a consultant? Do you work for yourself?

How did you make the transition to this line of work? Are you happy?  I am wanting a more flexible schedule once baby comes and thinking about consulting.  I'm in the fundraising business and (luckily) it's very common to consult for awhile and then transition back to a regular employee-type situation (and vice versa).

I would love to hear how others consult and/or work from home, and combine that with motherhood.  I work a full-time regular job now but am looking for some changes career-wise.
