more talk of discharge, your welcome

So - I'm sure as we near the end of the 2nd trimester we will start talking pre-term labor for all us anxious snowflakes. :) Wondering if anyone here has experienced something like this so I can not bug my nurse (again) considering my doctor's appointment was just this last Thursday!

Last night I went to the bathroom and noticed there were a couple wet spots - looked like I'd pee'd myself but if I did - that would have been a first that it wasn't accompanied by a sneeze. I'm kind of led to believe that it is just this increased discharge people talk about that I have been fortunate enough not to really experience - until now. It was just the watery consistency that had me questioning. Today - back to really the same ol' same, maybe a little more - but looks like discharge.

Ironically this is the time when my little 24 week bulletin's start suggesting that I look for any changes being that it could be a leakage of amniotic fluid. Anyone have experience w/ this and when or if I should be concerned?

I would definitely say that the majority of what I've been experiencing for several weeks now it just liquid...and I'm too naïve to know that I should be wondering about it lol.

It was only a "mucusy" substance ( :-& ) for a month or so and I've not noticed it being that way for a good while now.

  • Is it really hot where you are? A few weeks ago it was freakishly hot here, and I had a lot of watery discharge. I asked my OB, and they insisted I come in to check. She decided it was due to the heat - a discharge/sweat combination.

It was nothing, but they needed me to come in for a check - they were not going to just hope it wasn't amniotic fluid.
  • It is hot ... that's what a friend said, so that makes sense. I think since I went to bed and then today I haven't had any noticeable wet spots I'm going to wait and see if it happens again, and call my nurse if it happens again.  I'm assuming if it's not happening right now I should be good?

  • Not to hijack this thread, but I have a similar question. I've been having slightly more watery discharge the last couple weeks. I wear a pantyliner every day, and I notice there is more on days I work (12 hours on my feet). This is gross, but it smells a lot like ammonia. I don't know if it's urine, or if the ammonia smell is a reaction from whatever is leaking and the pantyliner? I haven't had any gushes, and I haven't snissed or anything like that. Am I most likely unknowingly leaking urine? Clueless FTM here! Is this something you would call the OB about or just watch? My next OB appointment is in 3 weeks.

Same. I'm confused by all this "sweet smell" talk lol.

  • I've also had some weird watery discharge, I smelled and it was odorless. So I'm not too worried. It only happened twice. I'll probably mention it at my next OB appointment though. Reading that I'm not the only one is reassuring!

  • I hate the whole "it's supposed to smell sweet" thing I read about amniotic fluid. Can you give an example? Like, chocolate sweet? Or flower sweet? hahaha I don't get it either!

  • I had pelvic pressure and more discharge than normal(really haven't had much)went to my drs last week. She said amniotic fluid is slightly blue. Also said that this is the time 24weeksish that discharge increases and mine is normal. She said to be on the lookout for spotting, contractions etc.
when in doubt go see your dr. Good luck!
  • I had this and went to my OBGYN. She told me that "either your water breaks or it doesn't" and that I would be soaking through pantylliners if it were anything to worry about. She was kinda a bitch and it was a definite tough-love moment, but it made me feel better.

2nd time mom here. Sounds like normal discharge to me - I've had an astonishing amount with both pregnancies and it was decidedly not amniotic fluid.
  • I also was told to do 'the test.' Put on a new liner and lie down for 45 minutes; if it gushes when you stand up, it has a better chance of being fluid that was pooling while you were resting. No immediate gush = good thing.
  • I went home and laid down for 30 minutes, when I got up nothing came out. I did have a lot of heaviness in my stomach though. Then last night I had a couple spots again when I got up this morning, probably 3 total ranging from dime to quarter size. Maybe it's pee? I don't know I'm going to call the nurse at 9 and see what she recommends. I really hate the idea that my bladder would be having this hard of a time already!! Pregnancy = fun
