Pregnant after a Loss

Blighted ovums

Hi all! So this is my third pregnancy, my first two turned out to be blighted ovums. My question is has any one else had this problem and had a successful pregnancy after? Or was there something you did/changed to help it be a viable pregnancy? (Will be going to doc soon just wanted first hand info).

Thank you!!

Re: Blighted ovums

  • I'm so sorry for your losses, congrats on this pregnancy! I had a blighted ovum followed by an ectopic and now I'm pregnant again (10wks) with this baby. I'm by no means a success story yet but have surpassed my first two milestones as there is a baby with a heartbeat in there! I know how terrifying it is to be pregnant after a loss but just hang in there.. There is nothing you can do unfortunately to change the outcome. Blighted ovums from my understanding are a chromosomal problem so short of genetic screening I don't think there is anything you can do to prevent. However, I have known a lot of people who have had successful pregnancies after having them! Good luck and congrats again :)

  • Congrats and welcome! My first pregnancy was a blighted ovum and I am now 33w pregnant. I took femera to produce a stronger egg since I could not produce a quality one on my own. I wish you the best!

  • Congrats to you! I have had multiple losses too but don't have experience with blighted ovums. I know there are lots of ladies here who have had success after blighted ovums. My husband is actually a successful pregnancy after a blighted ovum (his mom had one before him). PGAL is really hard but know that you aren't alone. Remember that every pregnancy is different and just because it ended so sadly before doesn't mean it will again.

DS was conceived after I had a blighted ovum; the only thing I did differently with that pregnancy was I took progesterone supplements through 13 weeks. I didn't have a progesterone measurement done with the m/c PG so I don't know if it was low that time. It was low with DS. Congratulations and I hope your stay here is long and joyful!

  • I had ds , then cp and two blighted ovum's. I'm now almost 15 weeks. I took coq10 400mg BEFORE getting pregnant. My re said nothing to do really. There best guess is chromosomes but their not sure. My sis had one then had dd:) congrats! Good luck!

  • I had a blighted ovum before DD.  I didn't do anything differently but once I was pregnant with DD, my OB checked my progesterone levels (they were fine) and we did ultrasounds every 2 weeks through the 1st tri just for peace of mind.

  • Congrats!

My first pregnancy was a blighted ovum, my second was a MMC due to triploidy and now I'm a little over 13 weeks and things are looking good. I did some treatments with the RE to help give me a better chance with healthy egg , but this one was conceived on a natural cycle. I was on progesterone, but that has nothing to do with avoiding another BO.

My doctors believed the BO was just bad luck.

Since January I have had 2 early miscarriages, and then a blighted ovum before conceiving this current baby. My OB put me on Metformin after the blighted ovum. I am pretty sure it helped in conceiving.
