Pregnant after a Loss

I guess I need to introduce myself, and then ask for some advice on how to beat a cold!

Hi ladies, I've been wanting to write something or send smoke signs for a few weeks now, but truth is I really wanted to be sure everything was ok before I got too excited.
I have a healthy beautiful 9yr old girl, I had the best of the pregnancies (I mean I was 19 yrs old), so I was surprised and frustrated when I went through a miscarriage on December 2013, along with a bitch woman boss that made it even worst, but anyway I quit that job on May and to my surprise since I wasn't planning on getting prego again, it happened.
So yeah, I went through the one and a thousand pregnancy tests short story, I freaked out everytime I got a little pain (which was 100% gas :p) and whenever my breasts aren't hurting that much; and of course checking the toilette paper everytime I go pee...
I'm 8 weeks and some days along now and had my first appt yesterday... I cried when I saw the little thing inside of my uterus and w a strong heartbeat, measuring what it's supposed to, I feel greatful and blessed, so I guess after all of that, HI!!!!! I hope to see you here for the next 7 months :)
And now, the weather is crazy in my city and I can't stop sneezing since this morning, I know a part of it is my allergies but I also know I can't take my medicine, I'm having 2g of vitamin C everyday but I want to know your experiences and advice.
:)

I take Zyrtec, its been deemed safe, as has Benadryl. You should ask your doctor what you can take for allergies. I usually treat colds with food, hot liquids. If I got one now Iwould take tylenol over motrin for the only difference, and my hot toddy wouldnt have rum.

    ETA: Welcome and congrats :-)

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I just found out I'm pregnant 2 days ago and I have the worst cold! Yesterday I had to work a 10 hour day and almost passed out. Today I've stayed either in bed or on the couch, sneezing, coughing and blowing my nose every 2 seconds. It sucks. Normally I'd be straight on the strong cold and flu meds but I guess I just have to ride this one out. I know there are cold meds you can take during pregnancy but I'm too paranoid to take anything.

  • I am a huge fan of a neti pot to treat congestion. It can be a but weird at first, but works great.

  • Congratulations and welcome! Benadryl at night is great for clearing up the sniffles at night, Breatright strips actually work (go figure!), Claritin during the day helps a little, nasal saline spray helps some people (didn't help me), and take more showers than you usually would. The showers wash off allergens and help to open your nasal passages. Ditto on the hot beverages; stock pile decaf tea. Also, if you start getting bloody noses from all the sniffling and nose blowing, taking Vitamin C works really well. It helps to strengthen the capillaries; when I take it regularly, I don't have them and when I don't they flare up in no time!

  • Welcome and congratulations! I think when you are pregnant you should get a pass on getting sick. I'm not a medicine person, so I just stick with Breathe Right strips and saline. Wishing you feel better soon!

  • I actually got super sick before I missed my first period, unfortunately I didn't knew so I did take medicine, but I hear you I will try to treat it as natural as possible, I've heard garlic is super good for the inmune system, as well as citrics, I hope we all get super healthy pregnancies :)
