1st Trimester

Stressed about alcohol consumption and dramamine

When I was 8 weeks pregnant I had a half glass of wine with dinner.  I didn't really even think that it would be an issue because with my previous pregnancy I had a glass of wine once or twice during my third trimester.   Now, I have read up a little more on alcohol consumption and just realized that  it is very discouraged during the first trimester.  Also, I was told by my dr. to take dramamine for morning sickness (nausea).  I took maybe 10 pills over 3 weeks and it really worked but now I am panicking a little that between the alcohol and the dramamine I've damaged the little tiny growing baby.  Of course, I will not be drinking a drop until after I'm done nursing and I think my need for dramamine has subsided.  I'm just needing some reassurance that I didn't mess up too much.

Thanks

  • Half a glass of wine with food once during your pregnancy is very unlikely to do any damage. My OB told me that if I want to have a very small glass of wine on my birthday or something, it would be okay, so long as I drink it with food and don't do it regularly. Dramamine was also okayed for me when needed and never more than the recommended dosage. Don't stress yourself out.
  • If the dr told you to take the dramamine, i'm sure it's safe. and as far as the alchohol, I think a lot of people drink before they realize they are pregnant and it's totally fine.

  • I had half a glass of wine at Christmas dinner at 8 weeks. That's the only alcohol I've had post-BFP and I just refuse to worry about it. I didn't feel a thing from it so I am assuming that it released into my bloodstream very slowly.

Ditto that the Dramamine is probably fine if your doctor told you to take it. I think there's a lot out there designed to frighten pregnant women for no good reason.
