Pregnant after a Loss

Questions to ask dr? Live child mentioned

Ok after 1 miscarriage and one chemical pregnancy I am back.  I find myself scared to go to the bathroom because I am afraid I will see blood.  (I guess that's a normal fear after 2 miscarriages)  I go for my pregnancy confirmation appointment tomorrow.  The doctors office doesn't typically do HCG or Progesterone testing.  I never had this with my first pregnancy that gave me my daughter.  Should I request this?  Anything else I should ask about?  I will probably end up with an ultrasound around 8 weeks (that's how it was during my 2nd pregnancy, first miscarriage).  Any suggestions would be great.  What helped you all stay calm during your pregnancy after a loss?

  • Congrats to you. I was put on progesterone as a just in case measure because my progesterone was low for other pregnancies. Your body will only take what it needs so it's worth an ask I think. Measuring your betas won't make a difference but it can give you some peace of mind as to how the pregnancy is progressing though an ultrasound of course will be a better indicator. A heartbeat generally won't be detected until about 6.5 weeks sometimes less.

My doppler was a sanity saver during the first trimester and I don't use it much anymore unless it feels like a slower movement day.

  • Congrats on you BFP! I had one beta (at 5 weeks) and a progesterone check with this pregnancy that I didn't have with my loss. I got to have one early ultrasound because of my loss history. I was happy to wait till 8 weeks for that scan so that we would be able to see more (and we did). I won't get another US until around 20 weeks, but I do plan to buy a Doppler. Good luck getting through the next few weeks, PGAL brain is rough.

  • Thanks ladies for the positive responses. One day at a time... I'm going to keep telling myself that.
