January 2014 Moms

One year ago

It's hard believe it has been 1 year since we announced our pregnancy! Here's a little throwback to our announcement and a more recent photo of the same photo idea :)
When and how did you announce?

Re: One year ago

  • I announced on July 18th with an ultrasound pic. After a loss in January and the loss of his twin, I just didn't have it in me to do anything super creative. (Which, if you know me, is very unusual.)
  • We didn't announce at all. I just told my sister and my parents right away as they knew we were trying (we're very close) and SO's mom and a close friend that I work with we told in September. But that's it. Everyone else figured it out as my belly grew or after I told my parents it was alright to share the news (which was late September). Many of our friends who we don't see face to face very often didn't know until after we had the baby.

I am a pretty private person IRL and hate being the center of attention. I love seeing other people's announcements but they're just NMS.

  • We announced via telephone/ emailed anatomy scan pics so this was early September if I recall correctly.
    BFP #1 (7/13/12) MC (8/14) 9 weeks. D & C 8/17.
BFP #2 (5/18/13) due 1/26/14. Grow baby grow!
    Its a surprise! Team green!

  • I announced on July 12 with an ultrasound picture to friends.  I announced earlier to my family with a shirt which said "One on the way" with baby footprints (iron-on letters and paint from Michael's).
  • We went public with an ultrasound pic on July 3. We announced to family on Mother's Day - all the women got together for a picture (all of my aunts, grandmothers, sister, mom, MIL) and DH was taking the picture. Instead of telling everyone to "say cheese" he said "everyone say WE'RE HAVING A BABY!" It was pretty funny because they all said it and stood there a minute or two before figuring it out.

  • I took a test on my mom's birthday so told her as part of her birthday gift that she was going to be a grandma. We told the IL's on their anniversary in June when I signed their card " & baby" Everyone else we waited til July and told them. Nothing too special.
  • We told our families on mothers day by putting this picture in our moms mother's day cards. We then posted the pic I believe the next day. DH couldn't keep it anymore he was so excited.

  • I told family really early. But they weren't very excited since I just had a loss in December. They just wanted to know when I was in the "safe" zone (I never really had a safe zone during my pregnancy!!!). I posted a pic of an ultrasound pic on fb at about 12 weeks after the cell-free dna test came back normal, 5 ultrasounds that all showed a great hb and healthy growing baby, and we knew it was a girl (again from the testing). Everyone was very excited as everyone knew about my loss. I shared the news early the first time because everyone knew I went through my 3rd Ivf and I told at 6 weeks since everyone was asking. I then miscarried at 9 weeks and had to tell everyone that. But this pregnancy, I did wait and everyone was super excited since it took us so long and shocked since it did happen naturally.

Gosh wow I almost forgot about this. We announced to all relatives and friends around July 12th. We sent a pic out of the one below and a 9 week ultrasound pic. We are die hard Jimmy Buffett fans. :). Crazy how time flies.
Edit: my shirt says future Parrothead!! :)
  • We told our parents on mothers day - signed their cards with "and baby #2".

We told friends and extended family on memorial day by having DS wear a t-shirt that said "Only Child Expiring January 2014"  We waited until people asked us about it to tell them.  Surprisingly it took some people forever to figure it out.

I told work through a voice mail saying there would be a new admit in January 2014 - details to come.  (part of my job is to send out voice mails to all the staff telling them when there are new admissions but it is usually only a week or two in advance)

I told my mom the day after I found out because I knew that if I had another loss I'd need her support, and we are really close so I have a hard time keeping things from her. We told some other close family members like my brothers and dad later on in the first trimester. I didn't announce on FB until after my anatomy scan, so I  was over 20 weeks. I used my dog to announce! I can't remember which picture I used, but this is one that I took.

  • We made my FIL a birthday card that said "Happy Birthday, Gramps!" With a stick person family that had a bump on me.

My mom got a Happy Birthday, Oma card.

For our friends, we made a spin off picture from a computer game we played together that said we were "now spawning super minions."

  • We announced at just shy of 12 weeks, can't remember the date. I admit my announcement was super cheesy and kind of nerdy. I set up a scrabble board (we're big board game players) with our last name spelled out, and then words off from our name spelling "Baby" "Makes" "Three" (I don't want to post a pic because it has our real last name in it). The especially cheesy part is that it coordinated with our wedding invitations, which had scrabble letters spelling LOVE at the top (got married a little under a year before I got pregnant).
  • I told my mom on Mother's Day and we told the rest of our family on Father's Day.

Facebook announcement was when C was born. We didn't do any thing during my pregnancy.

  • We told family after a 6 week ultrasound that showed twins. I then did everything but tape my husbands mouth shut to keep him from announcing to the world. At a follow up ultrasound at 8 weeks we learned we lost one of the twins so I'm very glad we didn't tell everyone right away. I shared at work at 14 weeks and posted something on Facebook after the anatomy scan that we were expecting a baby girl in January. I still haven't posted anything since she's been born but I'm not a big Facebook user.

I love all the cute and creative ways other people have announced!
  • I told my parents two days after we found out. My husband actually told his parents in an airport on his way home from his sisters wedding (I didn't go because she hates me).
I announced at 9 weeks by posting a picture of MH and an ultrasound picture saying happy Father's Day.
