Hi there - I am trying to understand what is going on and failing. I guess the best way is just to go through my story. Bear with me please

The women is my family have a bad history when trying to conceive. I've always known this, so it's kind of been a rain cloud over my head. I started menstruating when I was 12 and had horribly painful periods. Because of this, I was put on birth control and had been on it until college. Then, I started having adverse side effects with different methods and finally decided to stop it before my wedding. Cue painful periods again, leading up to my wedding day. The local OB/GYN checked me out (blood tests, ultrasound) and prescribed the 3 month pill to start so to avoid an unpleasant wedding day. I started getting odd side effects again, so we all decided to go off birth control completely after we got married. It's been 8 months later and no period at all. So, we went to the same OB/GYN to check it out. They did several tests and everything came back normal. After being reminded several times about my weight (I understand, but it was rude), he prescribed progesterone for 5 days, wait for the cycle and then take Clomid a few days later.
We are currently looking for a more knowledgeable and helpful OB/GYN, but right now, I'm completely flabergasted when everyone is discussing period days, when the cycle starts, how to figure out ovulation, etc. I'm trying to read books and websites about it, but I'm still really stumped. I know I should be more informed on all of this, but when I asked my questions, they weren't really being answered. Can anyone help me out, even a little bit? I feel like I need to read the book "Menstruation, Fertility and Pregnancy for Dummies."
Re: Don't really understand all of this...
Proudly on the dark side
Also, a book called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility".
Double also, I'm out of my league with Clomid, but the general consensus is to run away from any OB giving it out like candy. Its a serious drug.

Good Luck!!
I tend to agree with all the suggestiosn and comments you are getting.. and also can not recommend enought how awesome the 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' book really is. This book will be an amazing resource for years to come - TTC or not! Check out Amazon.com for a version less expensive than a brand new one, if that is your preference! I bought this book 6 years ago and have lent it to several friends in the past few years. Just received it back so I can refresh myself for my TTC journey!
