Pumping supplies on registry

Hello,
I am a FTM due in December and plan to return to my job as a middle school teacher after a 12 week maternity leave. I ordered the Medela Pump in Style Advanced as it was one of the ones I researched and was covered under my insurance plan. I would like to register for some supplies but am unsure of what exactly I will need. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I will need to make pumping successful at work? Thanks!

  • I wouldn't register for pumping stuff. I really hope BFing work is for you, but so many things can happen and it would be a shame to have a bazillion pumping accessories and not even be pumping. They aren't that pricey and can be purchased closer to when you'd use them once you figure out what you'll need.

The only thing I needed in addition to what came with the pump was sterilizing wipes or steam sterilizer bag, milk freezer bags, nipple cream (gave me tons of free samples at the hospital though), nursing bras (should have a few different sizes and wait and get fitted once youve balanced out) and breast pads for when you leak.

Did you even read what her situation is? She's going back to work and will need to pump. Nothing to do with BFing. I would say register for an extra set of pump parts, steamer bags, wipes and milk storage bags, nothing wrong with having all that on your registry. Even if you do not receive those as gifts and wait till after birth to purchase, it is nice to have a completion coupon to buy them with a discount. And whatever you don't need, just return it later if it is unopened. Even if you don't have a receipt most stores will at least give you store credit so nothing is wasted. I returned a ton of unused/unneeded stuff and got my money back several months later.
  • Extra pump membranes! They wear out, and when they do, what you can pump goes out the window. Target sells them, as does BRU. Nursing pads for when you leak. Lanolin. Storage bags if you're going to build a freezer stash. Personally, I find it much more comfortable to pump into bittles and then pour into bags to store. Dpeakinv of...Bottles. If you're EP use whatever nipples you like. If you plan to BF when you're home, stick to only slow flow nipples. Something to clean your pump parts with.
  • Thank you guys! I am determined to make bf work for me and the little one, I know it can be challenging but I feel like I have to give it my best shot. My husband's family is overrun with auto immune disease and I want to give my baby the best shot at a healthy immune system.

  • Extra power adaptor: I can't count the number of times I've left my cord at work but needed to pump at home. So then I have to pump in my car. Which leads me to say: car charger. Because there will be times you must pump in your car.
