May I vent???? Please? I'll send cookies!

I'm so aggravated. Yesterday my stepdad texted me and said "surprise birthday party for your mom, contact people." Ugh okay? I asked him when and where etc.  He plans a birthday party for her when he knows I'm not going to be in town?!?!?  What the heck. I asked him" did it not come up in conversation between you and my mom, DH and I are going to be OOT?" He said yeah. I get that it's a nice gesture for him to throw her a party but her daughter and SIL and granddaughter won't even be there! This is her first birthday without my sister so I know it'll be rough.

After a few texts back and forth, he still wants me to plan and get a hold of 20+ people. I will do it for my mom, but I just hate I can't be there. And really, planning a surprise party 4 days before the party?? Come on, what a guy thing... I already told my mom that her and I would do something for her birthday next week, but it still blows. 

Sorry for the rant. I'll send cookies for listening.

Is the date set in stone? I would say I am happy to plan a party on a day I can be there...

@JeffandLeslie no the date isn't set in stone but he seemed adamant about the party being on her actual bday.

I would probably contact the people he wants me to contact, but I wouldn't be doing any planning in addition to that.

It sounds like he is just doing it at the spur of the moment, and hasn't thought out the other details like that your out of town. I can see where he's trying to do something nice for your mom, but I understand how you would be bummed out too, as it sounds like you really care and really want to be there. Hopefully you get a chance to do something special with your mom too.

4 days??  That's ridiculous!  I'm planning a surprise party for my mom and I started six months in advance!

I would just tell him that's not enough times nd turn your plans with your mom into the surprise party...problem solved!

This....tell him it would be more of a surprise if it wasn't on her actual bday!

Sorry you have to deal w/ that....sounds like a pain and not a fun spot for you to be in!

Ahhhh! X( I really want to scream now. I just got a text from 1 of the guests that I invited (for my SD) saying " I just talked to (your SD) and he said party is off) WHAT?!?!?! I had to hear from a guest??? I'm running away. ~X(
