How far along are you? 29 weeks, 5 days
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): Diet controlled still
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? We came up with the plan to send my numbers to my MFM via email/chat on the phone each week instead of me driving all the way to the office an hour away. If my numbers start to creep up, I will go on meds.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? I feel like as soon as I find something that works well for one week and continue eating that, then my numbers start to rise. My Dr. said yesterday that he estimates that 50% of women diagnosed with GD go on meds now at some point and GD becomes harder to control later in third trimester as the baby grows, so to not feel bad if suddenly things stop working. He said to continue to eat according to the diet, don't starve myself, and if I am concerned about my numbers to email them to him and we will see what needs to happen. How long were your numbers high for before needing to be put on medicine?
GTKY: Any new foods you have tried as a result of having GD and loved? I've found I enjoy protein bars instead of granola bars since they have less sugar and less cabs, but I wouldn't say I love them ha ha.Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication):
I'm trying to watch my carbs pairing it with protein, but I don't have any guidelines yet. I go Friday for a group class about GD, so I'm on my own until then.
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week?
Reg appt Thursday. Which is pointless since I don't have anything GD related until Friday. Growth scan next Wednesday.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share?
I'm trying not to Google too much and freak myself out, but is the real issue just the baby getting too big or are there other side effects? I remember reading last week's post about a higher risk of pre-e.
Sorry this is all new and I'm trying to balance knowledge with full on Google mania until I go Friday. Both parents are diabetic so I have an understanding of diabetes, just don't know the difference between type 2 and GD.
GTKY: Any new foods you have tried as a result of having GD and loved?
Not yet, but I'm making eggs and veggies in a muffin pan to heat up for breakfast. I'm excited to try them!
31 weeks, 3 days (holy moly)
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication):
Diet. No exercise here since it's been triggering contractions
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week?
One week from today is my next OB appt
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share?
I cannot figure out how to stabilize my fasting numbers. Some days they are in the low 70's and some in the high 90's, and anywhere in between. I eat the same times pretty much every night. The only variable is how much sleep I get and I don't feel like that's so much in my control. Any help here?
GTKY: Any new foods you have tried as a result of having GD and loved?
Spreading almond butter on low fat graham crackers. You get a lot within the carb numbers, and it's filling.
Also I have been digging sugar free jello for when I just need to eat SOMETHING.
I tried a sugar free slurpee this week. It wasn't great but wasn't terrible.
Hope everyone is Doing well!

Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): diet
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? Today I meet with the delivery doctor for the first time. I'm looking forward to being able to ask him some questions.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? Still on and off with my fasting numbers but most of my after-meal numbers have been pretty good.
GTKY: Any new foods you have tried as a result of having GD and loved? I made a parmesan mushroom bake that was really good and had it with a side salad with grilled chicken and some watermelon for "dessert." Super good meal and my numbers were perfect!
How far along are you? 29 Weeks 4 Days
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): Diet and Medication. Im also trying to not be lazy and throw some walks in there here and there.
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? Last week we had our 28 week appointment. Baby's head is as high up as it possibly can be haha. We then had a repeat of our fetal echocardiogram and another growth scan. Preliminary report looks normal. Baby looks good but hes jumpped up to the 63rd percentile size wise coming in just a little longer and bigger then most babies his gestational age. My Dr perfers him to be in the 50 percentile or less as long as possible. SIGH.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share?
I think the thing that has helped me the most is pairing proteins with carbs. Dont cut the carbs out, just make sure your eating a consistent amount of carbs at meals and pair it with decent amounts of protein.
GTKY: Any new foods you have tried as a result of having GD and loved?Ummmm not really. I eat Greek Yogurt with fruit as a breakfast or a snack everyday. I normally am NOT a yogurt fan and Im still not totally one, but its better than high numbers!

Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): Glyburide (affectionately called "Globby" in our house) for my morning #'s
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? Nothing this week. Had growth and 3D scan last week. He's currently in the 60th percentile.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? I'm doing pretty alright now. Frustrated that I still can't eat any starches or sugar in the morning - even with meds my bs gets too high. Thankful that I can enjoy them at other points of the day though!
GTKY: Any new foods you have tried as a result of having GD and loved? Black bean burgers. I've been eating them with SW scrambled eggs in the morning as a way to try to get carbs and fiber in with protein without blowing my morning sugar #'s up like breads do.
How far along are you? 31wks 5days
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): Diet/Exercise fow now
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? Just my regular OB check-up tomorrow
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share?
I'm beyond frustrated. My Fasting, Lunch and Dinner numbers have been great but my breakfast numbers I just can't seem to get a handle on. They want me eating around 30g of a starchy carb with breakfast and anytime I do my numbers spike. Right now I test 2hrs after a meal. I talked to my dietitian this morning and for now they're keeping me diet controlled. She wants me cutting my carbs for breakfast and only having, for example an english muffin w/ peanut butter, then testing after an hour, and then having my snack earlier. If this doesn't work they're going to put me on meds for breakfast. I just don't understand why I can eat way more carbs at lunch/dinner and be fine but hardly any at breakfast and it spikes me.
GTKY: Any new foods you have tried as a result of having GD and loved? Whole Grain bread. I used to really dislike a lot of whole wheat/whole grain breads but since having GD I've found a few brands that I actually really like.

So far, I am still diet controlled!
Yesterday was my sugar police check in. I was worried after my sticky fingered toddler fiasco that I would be in trouble. Nope. She said other than those, my numbers are looking better than they did last month! And I can cut back on testing and return in a month, which will be most likely make it only 1-2 more visits with them. So ready for this to end.
I am struggling with wanting to eat all of the yummy treats that I can't have. So, so sad sometimes but I just limit the portion and watch and move on. I really miss pizza though.
GTKY: I am not experimenting with new foods at this stage. I have everything stable and I am not rocking the boat!
For breakfast, I am a firm egg eater. I am absolutely sick and tired of them but it really keeps my numbers in check when breakfast is my most challenging level. I only allow myself one tortilla or one English muffin. But even the muffin can get dicey. PB actually does nothing good for my levels. It doesn't matter when I have it but it's a no-go here.
I hope you all that are having difficulties with levels are able to bring things down.
@suitern-Glad everything seems to have settled down for you. My numbers were high for a week before they put me on insulin. But literally every fasting number was over.
@mrsdaniellem2010-I hear you on the contractions. I have to walk for 15 minutes after breakfast or I will be over and then I have contractions for an hour.
@mrsh112-Have you tried cottage cheese with fruit instead? That is my go to breakfast.
@crystalknpp-My breakfast numbers were hard to control too but it was b/c of my fasting numbers. I can still only eat about 15 carbs and then I have to walk too. I am always still hungry after but I have been adjusting to eating my snack sooner.
@mom2four97355-I made pizza for my family last night and I put mine on a flat wrap. They were only 11 carbs so I had 2 and it was amazing. This is the wrap I used.

Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): insulin for fasting #'s
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? NST today and regular appt after.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? I am so freaking excited that I have finally got my fasting number's under control. I can't have any carbs after dinner but I have been eating 2 string cheeses. B/c my fasting is under control so is my breakfast numbers!
GTKY: Any new foods you have tried as a result of having GD and loved? I have an iced coffee (decaf) which is carb-free and put some cinnamon in it. I heard cinnamon can help with insulin, I also heard this about dandelion leaves. So I have been putting a few in my salad and it seems to work.My fallback snack is almonds. I keep a container by my bed and in my car. I get those and string cheese at Costco.
@mrsdanielleM2010 I don't know that I can offer any insight into why your numbers have such a wide range other than it's what you've eaten the night before and sleep can totally work against you. As long as you are within your guidelines, I wouldn't be overly worried about the range. I'm actually not in the consistent number range ever but as long as I'm within the parameters, I'm fine. I even have days that I'm over by 2 points on a few numbers and I don't stress about it. Really it sounds like you're doing just fine.
@crystalknpp definitely stay within 15g of carb for breakfast. If you are coming close to going over with other meals, try cutting back by 1/2 carb serving (7-8g for me) and see what that gets you. I am suppose to have 15-30 breakfast and snack, 45-60g lunch/dinner. For breakfast for me, that's almost too high most days. I do take away servings if it's making things too high (I was told to by my nutritionist) and edit meals to counts that work, as long as I do not completely remove carbs entirely.
How far along are you?
I'll be 33 weeks tomorrow.
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication):
Diet/exercise and 2.5 mg of glyburide at night for my fasting numbers.
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week?
NSTs today and Friday and a growth scan on Friday.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share?
OB put me on meds last week for my fasting numbers, so now I will be getting induced sometime around Labor Day weekend (my hospital doesn't let you go past 39 weeks if you are taking meds). My after meal numbers have still been really good, unless I have a bad meal.
But, my fasting numbers have been great on the glyburide so far (haven't had a high at all this week), and I know that is the hardest to control, so it makes me feel a bit better.
GTKY: Any new foods you have tried as a result of having GD and loved?
I made some cottage cheese pancakes that a friend on another forum told me about, and they were really good. I'm also currently obsessed with hummus (not really a new food, but I eat a lot of it right now).

Thats a good idea about the cottage cheese and fruit. I used to have that as a snack but for some reason have completly abandoned it. I gotta get back to that.

I have a meeting with a dietician this week. Were hoping I can control the diabetes with a better diet. This is all so new and somewhat frustrating to me, really wasn't expecting it at all.
My go to snack is usually anything with peanut butter. But I am totally craving a chocolate chip cookie - 8 more weeks

Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication):
Not sure yet -- have had the worst time getting in touch with the nutritionist (who was supposed to call me). After hounding my doc's office for the two days I finally got a call from the nutritionist (who had lost my referral) & I see her on Friday. I have lots of questions.Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week?
I meet my new doctor on Monday. (I think my old one got fired -- which may have been part of the reason my referral was lost.) I'm actually kind of happy about this as I never connected in any way with my doc. So...a little nervous & a little happy.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share?
I've been trying (guessing) what to eat this past week. I did cut out my pasta and white bread -- hope it has helped. I was already not eating sweets.

Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? I have a growth ultrasound and my first appointment with the OB since I started checking my sugar next Tuesday. I can't wait to see how big our little peanut has gotten! Our last ultrasound was at 24 weeks.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? It's been a week of checking my sugar, and I'm having a hard time keeping my morning numbers down. Lunch and dinner is great, but I've only been able to get the fasting down to what they want it twice now. I thought I got after breakfast under control, but today after a decent fasting number, I had a high number after breakfast. I didn't eat anything differently today (two eggs w/cheese, turkey bacon, and an apple) than I have the rest of the days that my breakfast was good, so I don't know what's up. I'm feeling very frustrated with the whole process. I don't want to go on medication, and nothing I'm trying is consistently working.
GTKY: Any new foods you have tried as a result of having GD and loved? Not yet. I did try eggplant for the first time, but I didn't really care for it.
