Anyone else eat at chik fil a today??

We had dinner plans there with friends of ours and I realized it was customer appreciation day. Basically anyone dressed as a cow (or in black and white) got to eat for free. So naturally I started cutting felt circles out 30 minutes before we left the house... And here is my finished product..
I won't show you my outfit.. But let's just say I ate for free too. It was crazy how it wasn't busy there but everyone inside was dressed like a cow. Haha.
Oh and of course baby J had to get in on the fun. Poor kid. He didn't even get to eat a fry and had to dress like a cow...

Nope. Because they continue to support hate groups they will never get a penny of mine. Playdates can happen at home or a playground or, well, a restaurant that doesn't donate to hate groups.

I was invited to go to the one at the mall today because I was being introduced to another SAHM, and that's where she was going. Not really sad that I had to cancel on that one. I was totally going to get my food from Nature's Table while they ate their hate chicken in cow outfits.

ETA: I just decided that I am actually sad because I love me some turkey pesto from Nature's Table...

@diapersnwipes‌ I thought I read something about their change too. I read it shortly after the Hobby Lobby decision. I thought it said that the company learned that it wasn't in their best interest to be so vocal on their beliefs through the use of their company. I thought the owners were still personally supporting those organizations.

Chik FIL a has had strong and odd charitable giving ideas for a long time. I know someone who was invited to some kind of conference or retreat on giving for executives sponsored by Truitt Cathy like 20 years ago. At the time there wasn't any mention of anti-gay or pro-family or however they want to phrase it but they were talking about sending bibles to poor people in Africa. Rather than, you know, medicine or food. Essentially proselytizing was the main goal.

Nope don't support hatred or prejudice for anyone. Chick fila is pro family supports family organizations. They don't hate anyone. I just wonder how some equate disagreement with hate. The two are very different. Disagree fine but to say some hates is very different and harsh.

It's fast food and grease and a place for kids to play with tons of kids activities from time to time. I would go out on a limb and say that donating money to a pro family organization doesn't equate with hate it equates with support and love even. The 2 are different. If you don't agree just ignore, why all the animosity? I prefer to love first . That doesn't mean I don't have opinions but they can be given respectfully and lovingly

No we did not eat there. But we did get free slurpees from 7-11 for 7/11. I think we made the better choice.

At the end of the day, remember all "corporate donations" are just a part of political football.  Some companies just do a better job of hiding their controversial donations than others.  It's all a game and we're just the pawns...

Uh, make that 3 (that will speak up at least.) but I really, really had to stop myself from making rainbow cow spots and altering the "eat mor chiken" sign to say "luv mor humanz" or "Open mor mindz".

Oh and I printed and cut our the cow ears, spots, and tails that the emailed so it only cost about 2 minutes of my time. I only pay for maybe 1 meal a year there, i can live with myself.

This is kind of how I feel. I specifically googled CFA donating to hate groups 2014 and I couldn't find anything. Now, of course that doesn't mean that their not, but I'm guessing that a lot of franchises probably donate to different organizations that people who shop there wouldn't like. If that's something that makes or breaks you, then that's your prerogative.

Seeing as I don't have a CFA near me and I only like their chicken biscuits that they offer in the morning, it's not that big of an issue for me. I get CFA once a year maybe, but it would probably be more if it was in town here because no one else offers chicken biscuits in the morning.

I would be this way with any franchise over any issue though. I don't think that my $10 keeps their cash flow going enough to really make or break it. I'd rather do something that more meaningful that promotes my thoughts, ideas, ideals, etc. Again, it's whatever people choose though. Idc what you do.

I don't hate you. I think it's idiotic to spend money to get something for free. My dislike of CFA is a whole other issue.

I think saying this point blank is worse than spending money at a place that may or may not still donate to said groups. There were articles that said CFA was distancing themselves and not donating to the same groups that they were when all of this went down. There's articles that say that they still are doing this. I haven't done enough research to know for sure either way.

Honestly, political views aren't something that make or break it for me. I'm not trying to say that equality is worth less to me than a breakfast sandwhich, because it's not. Even if it seems like me giving money to a business makes it seem that way, then I'm sorry. It's not how I feel, I do think that gay marriage should be legal, and I'm not trying to say otherwise by going to CFA for my morning (yearly?) chicken biscuit. It doesn't matter WHAT the issue or POV of the business, corperation, or mom and pop shop is. It doesn't stop me from going there. Should it? Maybe, but generally I don't do enough research on political stances to form a super strong opinion about a certain place.

My very best friend is gay. One day I asked him to pick up a gallon of their tea. He asked if he could grab it from anywhere else. At the time, I was completely ignorant to CFA or Cathy's position on equal rights. Now that I know, I just couldn't support the company anymore. Is it naive or no longer relevant? Maybe, but it's just a sandwich. I'll go somewhere else. A good friend of mine loves the food and I'll admit the breakfast sandwiches are yummy, but I just don't feel right choosing to spend my money there. I don't care if others do, I just can't. It almost feels like betraying my friend.

Not to resurrect this thread, but this discussion made me think of two points.

1) What about getting free chicken as a way of "sticking it to them" so to speak? I remember after the initial debacle, there was some campaign to get people to go in and order a cup of water because they didn't charge for it (is that true? Many places charge for water) and the company was still paying for the cups. Some attempt to bankrupt them a few pennies at a time?

2) Does everyone here who speaks so passionately about hating CFA also research the donations of every business they patronize? Or is it just because this one was put in the public spotlight? Ignorance is bliss but once you hear about it, you have to hate
them?

This is such infantile "gotcha" BS.

Can every consumer research every single rpoduct and every single store? Of course not.

But at this point, if you patronize Chik Fil A, one of three things is happening.

1) You are very uneducated  and uniformed -- to the point that you must not have access to the internet or local news.

2) You know damn well what is going on, and support it by patronizing their product.

or, 3) You know what is doing on, and don't necessarily agree, but also don't care enough to give up a stupid fast food sandwich, or to suggest something else to your MOMs group, because it doesn't really impact your day to day, or figure that while it is distasteful to you, your dollar is really NBD.  I'd like to hope that most people who still insist on going there, especially on this board, fall into this group.  And this is where I think the line is drawn between people who are like "Well, I support gay rights in theory" and those of us that have actual gay friends and family.

I have a gay sibling -- like another PP said, no shitty chicken sandwich, free or not, is worth that. I truly can't imagine having that type of relationship with a gay person, and being 100% of supportive them (not "God loves all sinners supportive") and then still eating there.

And also, really, dressing your kid up for free fast food is very much my line anyway. Nope.

There is no BS to the argument about knowing about the companies you patronize. My point is that there are/were plenty of people who shopped there prior to the info coming out and only stopped when the info came out. There are plenty of other places people shop without knowing to whom or where their money is going. And they'll likely continue to do so until the next heated issue brings it to their attention.

And, since you're into personal examples, I have several gay friends who still eat at Chik-Fil-A because they like the food and think fueling the debate just causes the wrong people to act out politically.

Anyway, I was hoping this could be more of a discussion than an attack on others on this board like it started out, but since you choose to only address the arguments you want to and prefer to insult people, I'll just let it drop.

While I can't go around and vet every single store and their donation policies in addition to the donation policies of their owners, when information comes across my path that they donate to or support a cause I strongly dislike I do stop shopping there. I stand firmly behind my convictions and won't turn a blind eye to hate or prejudice in favor of a store or restaurant I enjoy. I boycott a lot of business, some national chains and other local businesses in the various places I have lived, when it comes across my radar that their profits are used in a way I don't want my money used.

I could not agree more. I've found so many discussions fascinating and I've seen different perspectives that really make me think. It has also made me take a moment to think about why I feel certain ways and how I would back up my point if view, ya know, if I was getting flamed. @amy052006‌, no need to oh honey. I'm not trying to convince you of anything or out-relate you. I mentioned my friends' opinion because I was surprised by it and I think it is probably unusual. They just think that there are better ways to promote change. They wouldn't be mad at someone for eating at Chik-Fil-A and even suggested them to our neighbors for catering a party, but they would feel deeply offended if anyone they knew/were close to voted against marriage equality legislation. Maybe they are choosing their battles. I found it interesting.

The information about this particular restaurant is out there. I know, so I wouldn't go, not that it's an option in Canada. My gay sibling does a good job on keeping me up to date on
