Complete Placenta Previa at 19 weeks

Was wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed? My Dr. said that a "complete" or "major" will most likely not move up and a c-section will be mandatory due to the chance of bleeding. Any advice/stories are much appreciated!

Re: Complete Placenta Previa at 19 weeks

  • I have no advice for placenta previa, I would like to say scheduled c-sections are not nearly as scary or hard as your mind makes them out to be. I had a lot of anxiety about having one with my son, and it was the right choice for me to make. Good luck with everthing, and try not to have to much worry.

I have partial placenta previa, so I am hoping that mine will resolve. Are you on pelvic rest? My doctor put me on that as well as light physical restrictions. No more mowing the lawn (darn!), no heavy lifting. I am not supposed to pick up my 18 month old, but that is next to impossible. I had a c-section with my first, and the recovery really was not bad at all. I was hoping to try for a VBAC this time, but if this doesn't resolve, that won't be an option. My advice would be to take it easy as much as you can. The risk is you can have heavy bleeding and end up in the hospital or on bed rest. My goal is not to have that happen, obviously. I had some light bleeding a few weeks ago, and that was scary enough. Good luck and I hope it resolves for you!

I have partial previa and have have three episodes of bleeding and constant spotting/light period like bleeding since about 15ish weeks. I'm 20 weeks now. Hoping it'll move, of course. May have a scan from the perinatologist soon to dig in further to where the bleeding is coming from.

I had partial previa with my first pregnancy also, but no spotting and it did move in plenty of time for a vaginal birth. Hoping you get lucky and it moves. You still have many weeks so take it easy and cross your fingers! :) Keep us posted!
  • My doctor just told me Wednesday that I have partial previa. She said we will just keep a watch on it to see if it moves or not.
  • I had complete previa with my twins who were born in January. I ended up on hospital bedrest for almost seven weeks due to severe bleeding issues and gave birth at 33 weeks. Not all situations are this dire but definitely keep in mind that you could/very may end up on bedrest at some point. The previa can cause severe bleeding. And, yes, you will have to have a c-section. It is extremely dangerous to deliver vaginally. I wish you the best and hopefully you have no complications. Feel free to pm me with any questions.
  • Also, partial and complete previa are different animals. At 19 weeks I do not think it would 'move', just an fyi.

I had partial previa at 19 weeks and they referred me to to MFM (plus they were concerned about the length of my cervix). The MFM said it was to early to diagnose previa at that stage. They wanted another ultrasound in 4 weeks. I went today and the placenta has moved and now it is considered "low lying". Now each doctor is different. I would just ask your doctorwhat their game plan is over the next few months. Complete is another ball game than partial however there is no hurt in hoping it will move for you. Fingers crossed for you!
  • Also found out I have partial previa at my 20 week ultrasound. No spotting yet, but hoping at 28 weeks (when I have a growth check) that it will be resolved. The doctor didn't seem too concerned.
