Finally satisfying a craving from childhood

After craving langoniza (a sweet sausage) for weeks, DH and I finally found a store in Chinatown selling a wide variety of the Philippine delicacy. I had it with scrambled eggs, sauteed tomatoes, and rice - hallelujah! Tummy was soo happy - and didn't get sick from it at all. This was my comfort food growing up - was in wintery despair I wouldn't find any in this city. I've always been homesick, but the hormonal turn has amped up the need for familiar flavors, sights and sounds. Thank goodness for that lovely grocery!

Anyone else craving a flavor/delicacy from home lately? I miss my family so much. :(

  • I mostly lurk, but I had to reply to this. Yesterday I had to full fill my love of Korean food. Lucky for me there is a Korean restaurant and grocery store near my house that has all of the classics that I grew up with. It's not exactly like my mom's home cooking, but it will do since she doesn't live close by.
  • now that you mention it I am eating more humus than usual because it just seems to hit the spot.

  • One of my favorite dishes as a child was stuffed shells.  I saw a post on the nest "What's Cooking" board yesterday about them and immediately made a shopping list.  Guess what I'll be making today? (despite the fact it'll be 80 degrees here in Tampa).  I can't wait to dig into the tomato/cheesy/spinachy goodness.
