What did your doctor say when you asked him/her about it? Did he/she ignore you when you asked?
GBS is very common. As PPs have said they will want to give you at least two doses (in the hospital I work in) of IV antibiotics before delivery if they can. You'll want to go in right away when your water breaks.
The big deal with GBS is that it can get passed to baby and make them very, very sick. Not to scare you, most of the time the outcome is great. You just want to make sure you follow your doctor's instructions of when to come to the hospital when labor starts/your water breaks.

I wish I could hug each of you! I have been a mess all day and reading about it makes it worse...I was looking for women who had this and you ladies delivered! thank you!
yup I had it last time. it can make your water break early. which is possibly why my water broke and I didn't go into labour.but I still needed the antibiotics so I had to be at tge hospital every four hours to get a dose then go home. it sucked.
Yup, I had it with both boys. It's really nothing to worry about, so don't worry. I was told it's normal for adults to have and that it will go away on it's own sometimes and come back. I'm surprised you were tested already. Usually the test around 36 weeks.
I had it with my first pregnancy and my doctor said that it meant that as soon as my water breaks I had to go straight to the hospital as well as what others have said about the antibiotics. Everything was fine and uneventful as far as the Group B Strep is concerned.
I tested + for it with my son. Like PP said, it doesn't affect adults but can be passed to the baby during delivery. It can be very dangerous if the baby does contract it, so that's why docs recommend antibiotics while in labor. The risks for baby to get it are low to begin with, and even lower with antibiotics. I can't remember the numbers, but they are out there and super low. My son didn't get it, and all of it was nbd really.

Exactly what PPs have said. Group B Strep is a bacteria they mostly don't worry too much about unless you have an active infection going on. The main concern for it in pregnancy is that if you are colonized with it and you are delivering vaginally, it can lead to an infection in the baby. So, they usually swab to check to see if you are colonized about a month before your due date so that they are prepared with appropriate antibiotics ordered for when your water breaks. Like the other ladies said, if the swab shows GBS+, you will need to get to the hospital for antibiotics as soon as your water breaks, meaning that the baby is now exposed to the bacteria. This is not uncommon and the antibiotic treatment is usually effective.
I think your doctor didn't make a big deal of it at this time because again as PPs have said, a positive test now doesn't necessarily mean that you will be positive closer to delivery time. My guess is that you had a urine culture and it grew out GBS. If the quantity of the bacteria was low and you are asymptomatic, they probably didn't even treat you as having a UTI. A good site to look at for questions (vs. Dr. Google which can be WAY SCARY) is https://www.acog.org/Patients
