Cloth diapers

I just bought some cloth diapers from my friend. I have spent 2 days washing, rinsing, and drying and some of them still stink. I tried severel methods I found on line. I thought they were just pee smelly but some are kinda musky. Any help? Please and thank you.

Re: Cloth diapers

  • You may need to strip them. Have you read about that online? Depending on your washing machine it can kind of be a pain. We have an HE and so I refused to strip ours in the machine because it would void any warrenty. It was a bitch doing it by hand in my bathtub. Also, sun dry them. Sun bleaching is one of the best ways to get stains and smells out!

  • If those methods don't work, look up 'using RLR on cloth diapers' on google. I never used it but I know a lot of people that swear by it!

  • Thank you. Yes I was trying to strip them. I will try putting them outside tomorrow. That was my next thought. I have seen RLR. I might have to look for that. My friend said they always smelled, well for me it won't fly, my others don't smell and I will get these clean. Thank you!
  • You're welcome! If all else fails, resell the stinky ones on eBay! ;)

  • Vinegar should do the trick.

  • That sucks that they're so stinky.  I also recommend the cloth diapering board.  I'm hardly a pro like those ladies!

Sun has done amazing things for our diapers. I strip using blue dawn and that also helps (although I've usually stripped due to repelling issues rather than stink issues).

Apparently I need to learn about RLR.

  • You could also try Rockin' Green detergents.  They have one that is an overnight soak made especially to help get the stink out called "Funk Rock"

Do you have hard water?  That can make a difference.
