Cloth Diapering

Line Drying Question

So our HOA does not allow any kind of clothes line to be hung in the yard. But I really like finishing the dying process in the sun for some of my thicker prefolds and workhorses.

Does anyone else's HOA prohibit clothesline, but still hang your dipes out to dry? They look a little strange just draped across the deck rail...any suggestions?

Re: Line Drying Question

  • What about drying racks? That's what I use. We don't have an HOA in our sub, but I still felt weird using a clothesline. My mom suggested drying racks so I went to walmart and bought a couple cheapie ones and they work great!

  • We have a retractable clothesline that's only out while we are using it.  You could check with your HOA and see if that's ok?
  • Unfortunately, even a retractable line is prohibited. I just re-read the guidelines and it says "clothesline of any type are prohibited."  We have a pretty strict HOA, so I don't even want to risk it lol.

But a drying rack is a good idea! No idea why I didn't think of that. We have a spare that isn't be used, so I'll definitely be using that now.  Thanks!

  • We have something similar to this:

Just make sure it's nice and stable.  On a windy day it's easy for the flimsy ones to tip.

  • Yep. Sure do

So DH put a hook on the fence and the house and we have a line we just hook on and take down when not in use and hide it in the shed. :)

If we were allowed a shed, I might try that too lol. Well, they are allowed on a "case by case basis"... stupid HOA

  • Ya'll are making me really glad we moved to a place without an HOA.
  • I do hang dry all my diapers in the office. I have two clothes Lines and umbrella pins. I also leave the fan on to have some air circulating and helping to the diapers get dry fast. Specially for winter time to avoid having the diapers smell because of the window been close.

Do it! Ours say they come by to check up on things but I know they lie. I don't leave it up when I'm not using it so I don't see the issue. I see bigger eye sores around here. It helps dry the flats better too since the air circulates better than a full drying rack so I just move them over once I take the dry ones off :)

We have the same problem.  I installed a retractable line, but only one neighbor can see it- and you can't see it from the road.

We usually use the drying rack though.

That's pretty cool. A little pricy for me, though.
