Trying to Get Pregnant

well now I'm confused

Hey ladies - I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question but, I am thoroughly confused and knew I could count on you to set me straight.

I used an OPK Saturday morning and it indicated high levels of fertilty, though I have not yet experienced a temperature shift - so my question is, am I to assume that I am still fertile? This is the second morning where there has yet to be any thermal shift. I guess I'm still just trying to figure out how all of this works. My CM is still pretty watery, so I'm going to assume that's a good sign. Sorry if this is rambly and dis-jointed. I ask only because I was part of a thread recently that discussed how all the pieces (CM, OPK, Temping) kind of play into the larger puzzle, and I just haven't figured that part out yet. I know that tracking your temp is the only way to confirm that you have ovulated, I just thought that since I got a postive on the OPK that a shift should have happened already, and the fact that it hasn't is making me wonder if maybe the test is just lying, or worthless or something like that.

I should probably point out that I've been using the digital ones, and will invest in pink dye or wondfos once I use up my current stash, I just bought a large starter kit initially and didn't want them to go to waste. In any case thanks in advance for any input. :D

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but usually the opk's indicate that you can ovulate in the next 12-48hrs depending on the test.

You are probably right - and maybe this is where my confusion is coming from. I thought I read though that that digital ones indicated when you were currently the most fertile. I have those ones that offer three options.

    - a circle with no face means low fertility

    - a circle with a smilley and little lines coming out of the face means high fertility

    - and a circle with just a smiley is supposed to indicate peak fertility - this is the one I saw. Which is weird because I never got the transitional smiley face, not that I'm super surprised since I only test once a day - another thing I need to change next cycle.

Can, but don't always. It just indicates an LH surge. You can have more than one surge per cycle.

Ok this is good to know, so then after the 48 hours pass for my OPK to reset itself (it wont let you test until 2 days after you receive a peak sign) should I just keep testing until I get a thermal shift? I am just wondering what I should do with more than one surge, other than have sex of course.

Assuming you still don't see a temp shift, yes.

  • If you are using the CB advanced digitals - I would switch to the regular kind if you still want a digital.  There a million posts on the bump about inconsistent results with the advanced brand.
Yeah I think I am going to - I should have earlier I just got all ahead of myself before I was really educated on how well they work, and now I am just sort of in a "use them till they're out" mindset.
  • I'm on day 6 of "high" and have yet to reach my "peak". It's super frustrating.

Agree, and I have had good results with the regular CB digital (the pink sticks).

  • Also, there is no smiley with lines coming out of it, that symbol just means blinking. I didn't know that at first!

  • I use the CB digitals (regular, not advanced) and it is typical for me to ovulate 48 hours (maybe even a little more) after my last positive test. For example, last month I had a negative digi Tuesday morning, a postive digi on Tuesday evening, positive again on Wednesday morning, negative opk Thursday morning and I did not see a temp shift until Saturday morning. So, I O'd sometime on Friday, probably right around 48 hours after my LAST positive OPK. - until you get that temp shift, keep at it! GL.
