What do you think about the boy name Guy. (It is English and so is my dh). I am not pregnant but we got into a discussion on baby names on our 7 hour Christmas drive (long boring drive). Is Guy to "out there" for the states?
It isn't something I would choose for myself, but I don't mind it, especially if it's a more common name where your DH is from. I always think it's nice when babies have names that reflect their heritage.
Yes! I was trying to put my finger on what's wrong with it. It's really cheesy. And just sort of blah.
Yeah that's exactly it. To me saying "hey what's up Guy", is like saying "hey what's up dude". That is unless you plan on pronouncing it the French way.

I remember in 3rd grade my teacher's daughter came in with her bf and she told us his name was Guy.
We didn't believe that was really his name! We thought he was just playing around and everyone in my class was like "That's not a name! Is your sister named Girl!"
I knew someone named Guy in middle school. I almost typed "I knew a guy named Guy..." Which is why the name isn't my first choice. I don't hate it though, and if it's popular where your DH is from, I think that's cool.
How traditionally English is it? My dh is English as well and I just asked him and he said aside from Guy Fawkes he knows no one with that name - and we just left England a few months ago, so he has lived there 33 years.
It is nms regardless

How do you pronounce it? The only "Guy"s I have known use the French pronunciation of "Gee" - if you go with this I think it's fine. The American pronunciation of Guy (G-eye) I don't particularly care for.

not that it matters, but are you pronouncing it the common way, or like "ghee"??

Ditto.
I went to school with a guy named Guy. I always thought it sounded strange, like "yes, we know you are a guy. What's your name?"
Maybe in other areas, they don't use the word guy to refer to a male.I think of Guy Smiley.
Or else, I think of the French hard g pronunciation, and then it sounds pretentious instead of overwhelmingly mundane. ?So, lose/lose.?
And then you can name your daughter Gal.
