Helmet questions

M got his Starband helmet today and I've got a couple questions for those already in helmets.

1) Did/does your helmet shift? It's happening most obviously when he is laying down and rolling around.

2) Did they give you the foam to close the gap on the Velcro side? I watched videos where i saw this but the tech threw ours away.

3) Does this fit over the ear look ok? The Velcro side is close fitting, but the other side is touching in the front and has a big gap behind. I'm concerned his head may bulge outward where it's open.

W got his DOC Band today and I've noticed his shifts too. They are going to call tomorrow to check on him so I'll ask then.

    2) Did they give you the foam to close the gap on the Velcro side? I watched videos where i saw this but the tech threw ours away.

I didn't know there was foam to close the gap. We were told not to close the gap and that we aren't even to pull the velcro.

    3) Does this fit over the ear look ok? The Velcro side is close fitting, but the other side is touching in the front and has a big gap behind. I'm concerned his head may bulge outward where it's open.

The ear on the Velcro side looks good, but the other ear doesn't even look like its in the ear space.

@BMReid you'd probably be more help then I am. I think you've had the helmet for awhile now if I'm remembering correctly.

  • @SandFHasse‌ i thought of you today. I was pretty sure i saw that today was helmet day for you guys today too. how is your lo adjusting? M doesn't care for the putting on and taking off, but seems fine once it's on. He's sweating like crazy in it!

To clarify the foam/gap question, we were also told not to pull out try to close the gap. I had just noticed some people were given the foam that came in the gap and that made sense to me since it would prevent any attempts to tighten. I'm a little nervous about daycare or grandparents needing to remove and put back on, though that will probably be few and far between. We stocked up on rompers that snap so they can dress him with it on.

  • And the ear, yeah it's way forward in the space. It slides over his ear when he's rolling around. I'm going to call tomorrow. I really feel like she cut it too far back.

  • @blue_elle‌ aww thanks. He doesn't seem to mind it. He was more interested in the toys on the table then what we were actually there for. He did pull on it when he was super tired and crying, but I think that's because he likes to touch his hair when he's tired. The rompers are a good idea. I had to change his clothes while we were there and got a t shirt over it fine. W is sweating like crazy too. I feel bad. I took it off for his redness check and his hair looked like he just got out of the shower. We will see how he does tomorrow.

The neighbor kid was already interested in it and had to come check it out as soon as we got home. He's so sweet.

@BMReid We do just use 70% alcohol to clean it and they gave us an option to purchase a cleaning kit for $35. It included a small bottle of alcohol, a small bottle of spray to help with odor, a washcloth, a glove, a brush and a duck wearing a helmet. We decided $35 was a lot. I just want the duck and the spray.
  • We had the DOC band so I'm not sure how similar or different they are. My sons would shift and move on him when he would roll and wiggle. Our tech said that was normal. To me, the shape around the ear on the non Velcro side does look odd. I would have it checked. We didn't have anything for the gap on the Velcro side. We were just told not to tighten it. I was nervous too about having other people take it on and off. I'm sure they told you but just make sure you go over with caregivers what they need to do. Good luck with it! It will be over before you know it. I sorta miss my son in his band :)
