Brand of Thermometer

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I can't find the answer.  I was using a CVS brand basal thermometer but I got strep throat so I tossed it and got a new one for this month.  I bought the Target brand and I keep getting the same temps.  I got 97.90 for three days in a row now.  Does that mean this thermometer is inaccurate?  Has anyone else had issues with the Target brand one?  --I asked this question in the 2WW thread, but thought maybe no one would see it! :)

Re: Brand of Thermometer

  • YES. 97.2, 97.2, 97.2.... then I got a + OPK and now it's 97.6, 97.6...
I had a different BBT before this & rarely got the exact same temp twice in a row. Also rarely got temps with a 0 in the hundredths (X.X0). I wasn't sure I could trust it & kept checking my temp during the day to see if it would give me different temps -- which it did.

I was contemplating buying a new one until I got a clear shift with the +OPK. I figure if we have TTTC I might buy a new one, but it seems to do the job for now.

  • Why did you toss your old one? Just wipe it down with some isopropyl alcohol...

I have no experience with the target one; my cvs thermometer works just fine. Try changing the battery in the one that gives you the same temp, or taking your temperature late in the day and see if it registers higher (it should).

  • @3houlagirl You're right, looking back on it I should have not got a new one and just cleaned it.  I was nervous about it because I didn't want to keep getting strep.  I never got repeat temps on the CVS one, I should have kept it!  Lesson learned I guess!

At least they're pretty cheap. And strep is no fun; I understand the paranoia ;)

I have heard the target one tends to have favored temps.  A popular one around here is the Wal-mart Mabis or Reli-on.  I think they are the same thing with different names.  I have the reli-on and it seems to work well.

  • I love my CVS.  When I lost it I got a target and had the same problem, internet sleuthing showed that the target thermometers cycle the same temps over and over.  I trashed it and made DH go get me another CVS.

  • I ditched my Walgreens one after repeated temps last cycle, the Relion is working well.  I think it was less than $7.
  • The Target brand one is infamous for favored temps. I had it and it worked fine for like 2 months and then I kept getting the same temps over and over again. I got the Mabis at Walmart and I like it so much better.

  • I like the CVS one. But the clear favorite tends to be the Mabis. When mine dies I'll change over.

  • Well shit, should have poked around a bit more before getting the target brand.
Walmart is scary around here and CVS is across town, so I still might have gone with target. If it sucks this cycle I'll just order a new one.

And to answer your question- yes to repeat temps. 2 of 3 temps this cycle have been the same. Should be an interesting looking chart!
  • Thanks all. I had success with the cvs one so I'll try that one again or the Walmart one if I need it. Hopefully I won't!
